Semantics. It is not "Open World" in the sense that it is not roaming the open world. You induce an instance of the specific chest/mob(s). And a random person walking by can't help you with a leve mob.
I just only have experience with it in WoW. For awhile you could get an alert zone-wide because the mob would cache in your game's data when it spawned if you were in the zone, then they changed it so it would only cache when it was near you which brought that functionality down to that of a /target macro.
Let's not get too carried away...
It reminds me of besieged in XI. For those who didn't play XI, in besieged you regularly got killed by invisible monsters because the servers were terrible, you couldn't see 1% of the players in the zone and the whole thing was a fundamentally broken, pain in the ass (one they never fixed).
Hunts are very poorly conceived, there's nothing interesting about the fights, they're just zergfests over in less than 60 seconds.
At the very least, SE needs to up the HP of these mobs by 1000% and increase their level - especially the A and S monsters, which I expected to be massive fights lasting at least a few minutes. Not a few seconds. They should also take a look at how frustrated the playerbase in Coerthas is. There's literally hundreds of people chasing a rank B mob at any given hour, 99% of whom aren't getting the kill because it's soloable and dies in seconds.
I never played WoW, but when the marks die in 15 seconds I'll ask you two questions. How useful has SE now made third party programs to get to marks faster and how long will it take for better programs to be made if it continues? Just some food for thought.I just only have experience with it in WoW. For awhile you could get an alert zone-wide because the mob would cache in your game's data when it spawned if you were in the zone, then they changed it so it would only cache when it was near you which brought that functionality down to that of a /target macro.
Look, if you want to presume the functionality of these programs based on how quickly you perceive marks to be dying that's fine. But I won't and you won't convince me to do it. I'll just wait until someone with experience with the programs in this game brings up the topic or I'll ask on another forum. I appreciate your attempt to educate me but I'm talking specifically about the programs as they exist currently. I fully understand their usefulness but I'm curious about the extent of their functionality.
I really don't have any interest getting into a semantics battle over this. I'm asking about the applications in FFXIV not FFXI.
I found an A Rank yesterday and I told my friends. They started making their way there but three other people showed up moments after I found it and started fighting. I fought it a little to get my credit, and I turned around. I asked them very nicely in say to please wait a few moments whilst a few of my friends got there. Nothing. I asked again. Nothing. The third time I was a little more blunt, and the response was "stfu".
That is one of four such occasions something similar has happened. Whilst I admire your rose tinted view of the general player base, the vast majority of people would choose to do what I just described rather than turn, wait a few moments, and let other people benefit from what they are fighting.
And no, my friends didn't make it in time.
And to all the people saying "YOU WANTED OPEN WORLD NMs", do you really think that's a valid argument? Nobody asked for a system so poorly designed as this and the repeated use of this 'justification' for hunts being so awful shows how little room for argument there actually is. If you're going to tell people they can't complain do better than "YOU ASKED FOR THIS", it's a really empty, pathetic argument.

Not many people would freely say that here. I do play on PS now, though.Look, if you want to presume the functionality of these programs based on how quickly you perceive marks to be dying that's fine. I read most of this thread and the others.
Frankly, IMO hunts are a fantastic idea. They can be done by anyone level 50.
What I don't like is the low-HP. And sands should be limited to one-time buy a week.
What would the above handle? Time to kill and less zerging (to a degree).
Its a great idea, but they need to be beefed up significantly. Just way too weak right now as is.
Finding it fine since we re still on the rush of players that came back after a new patch have been released, just give it a few more days
