You say "should remain physical" but it never has been just physical. They have always given special in game items. This isn't the first time and it's not the last.

If they want to give an exclusive item to the players who come out to fanfest, then that's there thing. And it should stay that way.

IIf you guys want to complain, maybe there can be a compromise. Maybe a special fanfest item for everyone, that we can all obtain for playing the game currently.
And another that only the people who go get.

That way all you "special snowflakes" can get a rare item, and the people who go to fanfest can be rewarded by se for attending.
BBut I still think the people who get it go deserve their own item.
