No. Absolutely not. Turn 8 is the only fight in the game where you absolutely have to be singing ballad or paeon. Ballad is usually used when a healer dies or can't manage their MP well. Outside of Turn 8, good healers almost never need ballad.Not sure that I agree with this statement, Foe Requiem for example should be used often if you have some good mages in the party. Also, in longer fights Paeon and occasionally ballad become a requirement pretty much. I think most good bards spend more then 10% of a fight with songs up. I would agree that you spend most of your time using dps abilities but I think the primary role is to provide support as well, I'm sure when the level cap is increased and there are more songs available bard will become even more of a support role.
