Derplander and co never were officially named because of the fact they're analogous to the player's own character. Hence because we can name our characters whatever we like, he and his party are basically just nameless generics, much like the original characters from FFI.

Having said that, in the Waning of the Sixth Sun story-recap DVD that came with the Collector's Edition, the character who appears during the in-game 1.0 cutscenes (who is made up to look like Derplander), has been given the apparent name of 'Meteor'. Why is never explained, but it's possible it's just an internal nickname the development team gave him and not what is meant to be his real name. So for now 'Derplander' will stick.

Yes, the PC in the cutscenes is given the placeholder name "Meteor Survivor" and looks like a red-headed Derplander.
