It's a Damage Over Time ability. Of the abilities unique to SMN (not ACN abilities) the only one with a dot component is Enkindle. Summon III, Fester, Spur, and Tri-disaster certainly aren't dots. I mean, I guess Garuda's Enkindle move doesn't have a dot, but Ifrit's does and Titan's kinda does.
If your not counting arcanists DoT's you post makes alot more sense hahahaIt's a Damage Over Time ability. I kind of get it, since i picked DRG, cause its AF looks awesomeWell, I was simplifying it. Personally I wanted thief for primarily nostalgic reasons. Most of my favorite characters throughout the series are Thieves, and it is what I played in XI. I will likely level Rogue and might even give Ninja a whirl, but the Mudra concept does not give off the Thief "vibe" in any way, which is what will be lacking.
Think of it this way. Your main class (at time of this post) is displayed as Lancer. If there was another job that utilized spears that didn't integrate jumps and have the Dragoon "feel" it wouldn't be the same as playing Dragoon.
While you may think that THF was never exciting, but it was something I used extensively in every FF that it was represented in.and it's good DD, and all that. But it's rather boring, that all it adds is Jumps.
It doesn't even have that special feeling, since it's singular purpose is to kill dragons...and we don't get any traits to that end, like in XI. I can imagine and visualize DRG as something spectacular, but the play-style of XIV doesn't support that vision. I want to play a DRG, not imagine a DRG; neither the AF or Jumps, will make it fun in the long run.
I'm trying to not be nostalgic either, cause it usually leads to ppl getting blinded by the past, instead of moving forward.
I'm actually looking for reasons to switch main to something else than DRG, because it doesn't do anything else than jump. So i will go NIN, cause it seems to give lots more complexity/options/versatility.
But with lv cap increase, we'll get both new class/job skills which might change what i want to play, again.
Also, i don't see why you consider mudras to be something *that's in the way* I don't know what your relation is to Zidane, but...him transforming and Trancing, and using those crazy Limitbreaks....is hardly Thief-like. Mudras could be used to hide your presence, or whatever. Also FF games are full of characters that are multi-job; Kimahri is LNC/BLU, Rydia was SMN/WHM? stuff like that. Did that ruin the feel?
Also it depends on where the character comes from. Thieves in Limsa, wouldn't use Mudras, but Thieves where Yugiri comes from, would? since that's where Mudras were developed. Each character, in every FF game, has always been different, and made THF a little different. It's not any different here.
But if Gunner branched off into Vincent, and you could shapeshift, i'd be on that in an instant haha. That could make for lots of fun; could be one of those hybrid jobs, that Yoshi mentioned
TL; DR: Rogue will be fun, adapt and enjoy![]()
The really fun part is that I'm sure almost everyone who played Thief in FFXI probably went for THF/NIN so they were casting Jutsus all the time![]()
shut your whore mouth sir! if a single Jutsu is done then everything else I do in combat is meaningless! Stealthing in for the backstab with my daggers after casting a jutsu to make myself do more damage!?!?!?! MADNESS
Side note: Zidane is my least favorite Thief character in the series. I actually disliked IX on the whole, but I'm weird like that...
As to everything else, in the end I will give it a chance and see what I think since it is the class I was most looking forward to when I started playing. Who knows, maybe I will be surprised and actually enjoy it, only time will tell. My greater point is that many players, myself included, were disappointed (not raging...) by the announcement, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Only on occasion for solo content. THF/WAR was way more fun
