Am I the only one that immediately thinks of Britney Spears every time they read the word "Toxic"?

People aren't really forced to play this or any game, so they can join and leave on a whim. Aside from that your following comparison is spot on, or at least I get what you're saying and agree."if these unsavory players are flocking to your game, it means you've made something compelling"
The thing is that is what he wants to believe.
People will flock because they are forced. Those negative players are only changing from 1 environment to the next not because "you've made something compelling" but because it's the next thing they have to "tolerate" when they move on their own accord.
A ferocious animal taken from its original habitat is not suddenly less ferocious simply because he moved to a zoo or that the zoo did something right to "draw" them in.
I know my explanation and comparison wasn't the best. Yet I really appreciate that.
Do you know what a toxic player is?
Lemme give you an example.
I'll even use myself as the example heck I might get infringed from this one but here we go:
"Holy crap Claire Abigail sucks! You cant do anything right! nobody wants you! Heck you're a mistake! your step father did you when you were young! your whole family is a damn mistake and should get sexually abused each one of them and burned! Leave this game and do everyone a favor and kill yourself! The world would be a better place without you hoe! I wish you die now so you wont have retarded kids that will probably ruin this earth! Go f word yourself you damn b word!"
AGAIN that was only a sample of what a toxic player is.Now do you anything in there that helps the game? Anything that gives the game longevity?
Im happy to say I havent met anyone in this game that is that severe. This community is good
Sounds like they want to attract an audience who will defend his game and vouch for it regardless of its flaws, which is arguably the perfect audience for any game from a marketing and profiteering point although only if it's big enough, just look at this game and these forums as an example. I agree he's just confusing and mixing passionate with toxic or however you wanna call it, people can still be passionate yet find flaws in a game and provide feedback on how to fix them, it'll only help improve a game in the long run. The kind of audience they seem to want will end up driving people away and doing more bad for the game than good, sure you'll have a small passionate dedicated group of fans who'll support you tooth and claw, but those fans more often than not end up resorting to comments like "shut up I like it like it is because I do, if you don't like it leave, can I have your stuff?", overall just bad stuff for any community and game.
Figures it comes from an indie dev and the article was published on Polygon. Looks like plenty of people correctly called them out on it though, because they updated the article.
Cant edit stuff on my phone >.< sorry for the double post!
Anyways, this community is one of the best out there to be honest. Granted its a bit sensitive that most there too but generally people here and nice and I'm happy to say that. The example I post up there is just mild in "some" games
Couldn't agree with this more. If you were asking people what they thought in-game you would probably have a lot of people agreeing with you. On the forums though...Cant edit stuff on my phone >.< sorry for the double post!

Well when you start being very active the chances you'll notice "toxic" behavior increases.Cant edit stuff on my phone >.< sorry for the double post!

Granted the "quantity" of toxic behavior is not big in FFXIV compared to other MMO's yet the "quality" of that toxic behavior is no different. Sadly there are victims and it's pretty sad to see an article defend it and even encourage it.
I've been playing for half a year now and I've been logging on every single day for at least 2 hours the whole day at most I think that should count as "active" xD
But anyways I didn't say the community is perfect all I'm saying is that it's better than most out there
I love how 70% of people responding to this thread think the OP is complaining about toxic players. SMH some people can't read past the title before they spit their drivel.
