Without evil, there can be no good.
Without evil, there can be no good.
I can't seem to find the value of this article.
1) It uses the term "toxic players" but doesn't define what it entails.
When talking about Riot, they cite players that "used racial slurs, harassed others, or verbally abused fellow players". When talking about future players of Unchained, they use the term "agressive players", then later describe them as passionate.
Not once is a "toxic player" properly defined, and honestly, from the description Jones gives, I'm not sure it means the same as for Riot, for example.
2) It doesn't give any argument.
Again, aside from arbitrarily attributing certain (vague) qualities to certain (undefined) players, it doesn't say anything. It doesn't offer any kind of reference, reasoning or fact.
I personally understand "toxic" as "damaging to the in game experience of other players".
I don't believe there are "toxic players" and "non-toxic players", what damage the experience of others are words, action, behavior. That kind of things isn't set in stone, nor is it part of the fundamental nature of anyone. And what is damaging to some is normal to others, and even enjoyable to other others.
We've all been "toxic" to someone at least once in our life. Some more often than others, which doesn't mean they don't change, learn, adapt, or give a good time to others, too.

Another thread made and perpetuated (maybe inadvertently) by a "don't tell me how to play, I pay money for this" type of people.
Right, because people who drive away others from a game surely keeps it alive..that's the dumbest thing I've ever read in quite a while..
Of course toxic players are needed. Who else will I make fun of?
I think that guy is confusing toxic with passionate.
this is generally the rule i go by for toxicity
hooray science.
on an unrelated note your mom's sayings are probably the most scientifically ignorant things on the planet. at least she meant well.
"Momma always said, DF was like a box o' chocolates"
Are people too afraid to say something's cancerous these days or something? What is this "toxic" nonsense supposed to even mean?
"if these unsavory players are flocking to your game, it means you've made something compelling"
The thing is that is what he wants to believe.
People will flock because they are forced. Those negative players are only changing from 1 environment to the next not because "you've made something compelling" but because it's the next thing they have to "tolerate" when they move on their own accord.
A ferocious animal taken from its original habitat is not suddenly less ferocious simply because he moved to a zoo or that the zoo did something right to "draw" them in.
