Are toxic players good for FFXIV?

With some exceptions such as the players that throw out real life hate speech, one persons toxic player is another persons passionate. To me Gormogon is toxic with how he thinks we should never try to give tips on how to beat something to another player. He probably finds me toxic for thinking that he is.

Just b/c someone acts like a jerk online doesn't mean they are dedicated to your game. Some people are highly competitive no matter what they're playing, and do that rude crap on day 1, they might not even be particularly engaged. And some of them that get banned and come back simply do that b/c that's the game their friend is playing.

It's a fallacy to think that poor sportsmanship and online abuse follows being a diehard fan of the game.

Oh I know you and many others consider me "toxic", mainly because I don't give in to such forced perception of "helping" and actually look at it from both sides.

Since I never said to literally, never give advice or tips. You can hope to aspire people to be better. If you can give your 2 cents without making the situation worse then by all means try. Yet if you're only gonna fuel a fire then you should stop. Which is exactly what the majority of people do when they give their 2 cents and proceed to blame anyone but themselves for making the situation worse. Since even though at the end the both are to blame, one for being prideful the other for being arrogant, it could've been prevented by just not saying anything at all.

While I disagree with OP's article heavily ( A game running on subs shouldn't tolerate players that drive others away) I do like how much of the front page went on a tirade without reading OP's post.

Im happy to say I havent met anyone in this game that is that severe. This community is good

Personally i've seen someone act like that on the duty finder to someone within their own free company to someone that was supposed to be their friend.

I was having an off dungeon as Paladin and the BLM started cursing me out and calling me a scrub. So I called a GM on him. There's your third alternative. If people are cursing you out, report them. Done. I haven't been playing long and am still very much in a learning phase scouring forums to learn enmity rotations. I'm always open to suggestions on how to fulfill my role better but if it isn't done nicely then yeah. My favorite part of his abuse was when he told the level 32 SCH to use Leeches.

I may have always misunderstood, but I took the term "toxic player" to mean a player who is basically just a flat out nasty piece of work, nothing to do with competitiveness, just a jerk. As I said, I may be wrong, but if that is the case then my answer is most definitely a no. A toxic player isn't good for the FFXIV community, the same as a murderer isn't good for a real life community.
