From what I've been able to understand, the combat system needs to be something that feels fun and rewarding. Take some action game, ignore any and all story or cut-scenes, and then play it a few hours a day, for several months. I don't think any action game on the market has that kind of longevity.

There might be one exception. And that game is Demon's Souls or Dark Souls. But what makes that combat system so great, isn't the fact that you can attack, dodge, block, and parry. What makes it so great are the enemy routines. There are so many different enemies, all with their own styles of fighting. Some are predictable, some are random, some just go balls crazy on you. But if you give any enemy an inch, they'll take a mile. The fact that most things you face (providing you're not super high level) can drop you in a few hits, makes defeating them very rewarding. And each time I died in that game, I never felt like I was cheated. It was always, "Yeah, I got a bit frazzled and didn't react correctly."

Long story short, a good battle system with longevity is a lot more than just dipping, ducking, diving, and dodging.
That is what I want added most + dipping, ducking, diving, and dodging, and skillchain combos. Why not? Or is the current battle system is super fun and interesting that keeping it the way it is is totally fine and enjoyable the reason this game is such a huge success?

That is asking a bit much of any development team who hasn't had a system like that planned from day 1. You might as well just start from scratch.

Yes I do have a My Little Pony sig because I'm not a complete loser who lives in his own little world, proclaiming something is stupid because I say so.

This -- sadly people won't ever believe this unless they've actually been in the industry before, or not ignore common sense, either way lol. People already get antsy about them redoing the CURRENT system and that it takes awhile, changing the entire pacing, algorithms as well as Enemies to correspond with said changes and as said, you're better off just making it from scratch or making it an event system where it's only present there and not the defacto battle.

If you are absolutely fine with everything the way it is now, why don't you go ahead and say, "I want easy game, I want boring game, I want dull game, I want everything handed to me, I don't want to work for any rewards." Giving people choices on difficulty has made the game boring. Why work hard and when you can steamroll thru em and get the same rewards as people who set it at a higher difficulty level?

They are in the process of redoing damn near everything from scratch anyways so ps3 players can actually enjoy the game. So, Why not? We PC players who played since release do not matter other than them gauging our reactions on their progress. The true target audience now are the ps3 players.

Did I ever say I liked the way the current battle system is? No, I didn't. It's fine to make suggestions, I'm just pointing out that the idea is unrealistic. You just can't do something like this. And with how much flak SE is catching from taking as long as they are, something like this would take...well...an entire development cycle; years. That's all I'm trying to saying.

Wasn't it already clarified that the crystal tools engine limits this sort of action and thus we wouldn't get it in FFXIV, and instead would be moving towards the 2nd style of combat in mmos which is an older style with AA and more stategy within the action you take and not strategy like dodging and such.

Well, if the developers have the same attitude that an idea such as that is almost impossible to apply, then they may as well pull the plug. I'm not expecting this to be out in a few months, maybe in the next year or so when they start thinking about pvp.

Not that I know of, given Versus XIII has a different styled combat system all together and it's the same engine.

That's actually how I pictured dodging in the game should be, along with the attacking in midair and such. You can still have auto attack, positioning a mob a certain way, but you won't be stationary. You will always be moving like it's a fight for your life.
