Novus weapon upgrade system findings

Regarding the Completed Curtana Novus by Artista Jun: It's... *drumroll* Parry/Accuracy! Crud. Either way, holy geez that was fast.

Regarding the Japanese thread: Automatic translation isn't working ideally, but I think I can support the slightly more proficient translation(s) with a later post mentioning how the "hit" could be melded 35 times, 35 + 9 = 44, and that it makes sense that the number is 35 now. Numbers that support an association with Accuracy on a healer weapon.

Regarding the patch note example: There's no Determination or Piety on that Gae Bolg. It contains 75 points of 1:1 stats. Remember that Det is approximately 1:1.415 and Piety is approximately 1:1.34. Therefore, it cannot be used as evidence to disprove the theory that Determination and Piety are actually weighted on a Novus. The only thing that can prove or disprove it is a finished novus with Determination and/or Piety on it. No ifs, ands, or buts.

If they really wanted DET to cap at 22 you would see 0/22 on the scroll.... a lot more user friendly than explaining somehow that 31 DET goes down to 22, imho

A few things here.

First, a weapon can hold 31(44 points of stat weight) Determination and 31 other points of stats. Alternatively, it can hold 33(44 points of stat weight) Piety and 31 of other stats. Every weapon allows us to add a maximum of up to 44 points of weight of any stat. The caps of 31 Determination and 33 Piety align with the 44 points every other stat gets. Thus, locking us at 22(23 for Piety) without the ability to have a weapon with 31 Determination would defy these existing caps of 44. As it stands, it might be possible to have 31 Determination and lower other stats instead to give Determination the 44 points of weight everything else caps at. If the stat weights do apply, this is why we wouldn't be directed to just meld 22 Determination materia to cap the stat.

Additionally, I'd like to ask which is more user friendly:

1. Visibly lower caps on infusions for stats we know are weighted, followed by a notification at the Novus upgrade that "You have weighted stats in your scroll. How would you like them to be distributed on your weapon?"(This is just a guess as to how it would work if the weights apply). The community is dismayed that they don't get weighted stats for free.

2. Every time you infuse a materia, the caps of every other stat change without warning; some more than others. The community is dismayed and may be literally afraid to infuse additional materia for fear of undesirable change.

I'd personally prefer 1. In 2-3 days of discussion, we've figured out all the details required to understand it. We know that either scenario A will happen or scenario B will happen, and we know what the results will be for either scenario. If the system aligned closer to 2, then it would be significantly confusing in a far more irritating manner. In my opinion, having the caps stay static with this questioning as to what Determination and Piety will do is more user friendly than the alternative.

I see what you mean, but don't think that every player of FFXIV is like yourself or me caring to compute stats, caps etc... they need to do something "casual" and converting 31 det into 22 det without any explaination a priori is not casual at all.

I'd rather see det increased of 3 points every 2 melds or something on this line.

That's why I think we'll end up with 31 det/44 crit (me at least)...

anyhow, we'll soon see since someone getting close to capping and keeping us updated here on the forum =)
