Would people still do brayflox if it didn't drop tomes to get i100 gear?

Before the novus patch was release I did farm brayflox even after being soldiery capped and having to spend myth since I was always nearing the 2,000 cap. It's like you believe doing something for the sake of doing it is just such a ridiculous notion.

People want a challenge and that's the carrot Brutal mode offers. The icing on the cake is the title that goes with it as evidence to completing that challenge which isn't needed but it is still there. Same with coil giving gear. You don't need coil gear to down coil. The gear is a reward for being able to tackle it and completing the challenge.

I miss the good ol days where gear wasn't gated behind raids.

What's your point? There where people that were in their late 80's playing WoW when it launched and were part of the guild I was in. Player age is insignificant to the actual age of when MMO's where released.

I'm talking about MMO's that were released in the late 1990's and early 2000's where the notion of "instanced raid" didn't exist that current MMO standards rely heavily for doing end game content.

That wasn't what I was talking about, but ok. Gee, I'm 80 years old now? :/ I'm not as old as my grandmother. And while my beloved grandmother could play if she wanted to, she doesn't really care to.
ALL, I was saying, if I was saying anything, is when did MMOs not throw gear behind raids? Can you name one game? Here, I'll help you: City of heroes. That one only counts because it had no gear whatsoever.

But then again, City of Heroes's servers were taken down. We live in a material world. People want: "stuff" And more recently (not long ago like you said) people want that stuff without having to do anything for it.

Yeah people that do down Brutal within the first 3 weeks really deserved their allagan gear.

Yea ok. Let's just say no one earned their gear... because, reasons. Really how do you earn gear in this game that only has a small chance to drop anyway. I am higher ilvl than my friend that formed a static on their own and downed turn 9. That doesn't make me as good of a player than him. He's the one that is a better player. I just got luckier with drops. So, having gear means nothing anyway. It's no "prize" for being a good player. It's merely a carrot to go do the content.
