Square-Enix dont know what "Standards" are and currently progressing on a very blind road carelessly. It's going to be so fun when they decide to charge because we all know people wont pay.

Everything in XIV's battle system is built exactly like in a MMO with an AA. None of the animations could be used for an action based game none of the timing nor the stats could be used either. If you're drowning near the shore do you swim back on dry land or continue for miles until the next island shows up?
One of the major issues has been that XIV just doesn't feel like a FF title. Changing the game-play to be of a genre no numbered FF title has been yet would not make sense. Even if I like some action games I wouldn't want FF games to become those. There already is enough action games to begin with.
And yet audio fidelity(including voice acting) is one of the things costing EA the most in TOR's development, and if the game isn't up to spec like certain reports would have you believe, then it was all for nothing.I never said TOR was good, I just said that most games coming out, GW2, B&S, and SW:TOR among them, will have a lot of voice-acting. Currently we don't even have voice-acting for the main class quests.
And to think Japanese, French, and German players have to listen to the few voiced-cutscenes in english?
It's pitiful.
Sure you can say that "well hell, at least they tried something", but so did FFXIV, and look where it is now.
Every FF game had random-encounter screens until FFXI came along and broke that mould, so sometimes breaking with tradition is necessary to fit the genre. But I guess I see your point. On the basis of market-potential, however, I do wonder if anyone will actually want to play auto-attack/boring FFXIV.Everything in XIV's battle system is built exactly like in a MMO with an AA. Another thing, I personally look at FFXIV's animations and I see potential for at least the active combat system they envisioned on www.finalfantasyxiv.com . Which would be a far cry better and industy-relevant than the one they have proposed.
Well, I don't know about you, but I don't watch movies with the sound off.And yet audio fidelity(including voice acting) is one of the things costing EA the most in TOR's development, and if the game isn't up to spec like certain reports would have you believe, then it was all for nothing.

So I think it's worth it. You say that if TOR fails, then it will all be for nothing. But it's practically impossible to make a video-game interesting to normal people if it doesn't have voiced cutscenes. So implementing the quest without any voice-acting is what's really all for nothing. Why implement a story-based quest if it can't fulfill it's potential and be engaging?
I just really don't find walls of text very engaging. (In videogames, I hasten to add.)
I dont understand. Why do we care if this game meets the "Standard that WoW set" or matches the voice acting of the others in this genre.
I agree that this game has many, many things lacking, but i still have fun playing it. (as i assume many of you do, since you're still here) I look to the future and the things that the devs are bringing to the table and judge them based on the merit of this game.
Honestly, if FFXIV does not match up to many of these other games, why are you even here? should you not be playing those "better games?" You can still come back when it meets your standards, you know?
Any game invites comparisons to other in the same genre, but expecting them to contain all of the features of another game is like expecting them to be that game. FFXIV is it's own beast and even after all of the changes, will remains so. Try to appreciate this fact.
I used to appreciate that fact until Yoshi came in and said "let's make this into WoW as fast as possible". In so many words.I dont understand. Why do we care if this game meets the "Standard that WoW set" or matches the voice acting of the others in this genre.

There comes a point where this IS their game, their vision, their design, and their innovation or even lack thereof. While certain elements are the standard and universal among all MMO's, much of the vision for this game as outlined by Yoshi will come to fruition, and you'll either like it, or you'll go play Guild Wars 2, or Star Wars or whatever the current trending MMO happens to be at the time.
not really, the ffxiv model is closer to an active time battle system than anything else. Except they gave different actions different costs of the bar. (which is in fact pretty common in ff series)Everything in XIV's battle system is built exactly like in a MMO with an AA. What they are putting into place is the AA /cooldown heavy system that is popular with EQ and WoW and ffxi. which are, as you may notice all very old games.
But AA alone wont make or break a game, however, the general idea that they should look to MMOs by and large from 8 years ago for direction, ehhhh i dunno. Also his idea jacking doesnt seem as FF altered as they used to be when they jacked concepts in ffxi
I mean quest hubs, that name shouldnt mean anything to ff people. Im all for having progressive quests, but why is its implementation called something from another game? Why is it going to be implemented in a hub form? is having a hub for quests very FF like?
Its all good to jack good ideas, but you r supposed to make it fit into the world you create, not fit the world into the concepts you want to jack.
I never thought he was refering to bringing the game to "mmo standards", but rather bringing FFXIV up to quality.
People have been more or less content on the boards, so why do you want to go sowing dissent again? What purpose does this serve? We continue to give thoughts, opinions, and feedback, more or less in a positive manner. By now, I well imagine the team has researched every successful mmo out there (it shows in their choices). Building the future from here is all you can do. We (more or less) are trying to do that.
Since it would be pretty dumb for Yoshi-P and team to purposely try to fail, it would make a lot more sense that they are doing their best, at the quickest pace they can, without tripping over their feet.
Let's put our best foot forward, and stay positive, as they say.
