Full voice and a billion quests probably aren't necessary, but some degree of novelty and innovation is.
So far the only unique thing is "not having swimming" or "not having ground based AoE".

Why does everything have to be so mechanical? If everyone tries to copy the 'standard' (Just like RIFT/SWTOR did with WoW) where will the unique games be?
I'm all for someone making a unique game that has different ideas while making sure the game is still accessible and playable for everyone.
Not going to lie, but the whole lack of auto-attack only happened because of how it was implemented and the other problems stacked on top.

I wouldn't call wow the standard, wow has many flaws, but is easily accepted by casual non-long term MMo players prior to wow. FFXI came out before wow as well. Wow used standards of other mmo's and merged them.
I rather FFXIV ebe FF not liek a typical, cloned games. FF online has been about the story, challenge, community, and set it own path. It needs to remain that way.
