Wait I am sorry I am a bit confused I might have missed a few pages since I last read so the scroll has a lock out requiring you to put in a certain number of lets say tier 1 before it allows you to add in a tier 2. But at the same time it allow you to input a tier 2 it locks out tier 1. While that trade is going on the failure rate climbs and for each failure the rate of melding approaches 100% success rate again. So my questions are:

If let say your on the teir 4s of Determination (Det) and you wanted to add Skill Speed (SkS) as your next stat could you start SkS and then then come back to Det when you get your next Det. And if so does SkS start at teir 1s or at the current cap for the other Materia fused stat?

If you fail on teir 1s does the success rate increase the same as if you failed on a higher teir?

Are the success rates shared between stats so I can risk a cheaper materia Sks to increase my success rate high enough to try the more expensive DET?

The stats are independent of each other.
For each tier of materia, around half of the required materia will have a 100% success rate before it slowly drops off.

Being on Tier IV for one stat have no effect on Tier I of another stat.

Hm, was just wondering... wouldn´t it be A) better and B) cheaper if you don´t max out 2 stats than distribute for 3-4 Stats

like, what about i fuse until Grade III is full and instead of investing in expensive Grade IV Materias for a +1 anyway, why not buiding up a third or forth stat where i can use Grade I ...

I was planing maybe on CRIT+SS and by this system, i could mix in some ACC for Coil ... and saving lot´s of gil for not buying Grade IVs

it seems this step is made with much potential to mess up...

For my Thyrus Novus I'm planning a det, pie, ss distribution such that I don't have to use any tier IV materia at all.
It's entirely up to you what stats and which distribution of those stats you want to put on your weapon, as long as you fully infuse the scroll.
You can put on crit, ss and acc onto stardust rod if you want to (assumption based on listed class here) and would likely save gil that way.

You could of course make your stardust rod useless by putting parry+skill speed on it instead

This is exactly what I've decided to do, not only because its cheaper but for a BRD it just makes sense. I'm going to take Crit up right until I need level 4's to enhance, and then some combo of ACC and DET. Probably 2 to 2, just have to see what they cap at before needing to move to the next tier.

Also, it will be nice to actually determine the outcome of your weapon. I don't care if my set-up isn't the super elite bestest combo of points ever. Who cares about "messing up". These are secondary stats anyway, and the correct way of slotting them all depends on what other gear you can get/plan on getting anyway. I think some people are worried too much about "messing up" (not you, in particular) and over-looking the fact that this is one of the first things we have been able to truly customize in this game to the way we want.

    Just have fun with it!
