    Summoner or Dragoon?

I want to create another DPS class and i'm leaning towards a summoner. I heard that summoners do more damage than dragoons and they are also great for The Binding Coil. Which do you think is the better DPS? I already have a lvl 50 dragoon but I want to know if focusing more on my summoner is worth it.

What do you like better? Summoner is more effort by comparison but the reward is usually more damage. Whereas flying through the sky is much cooler.

Summoners can dish out some high DPS and are very welcomed in groups. However are you currently in a static? If you are how many Bards do you run?

It will basically fall down to: Do you want to have high DPS to help your group? Or do you want to help your Bards DPS in your group while doing your best? Or which do you want to play the most?

I personally find SMN/SCH my favorite class, but outside of personal preference I would level a SMN just for the versatility and fun factor. It also helps break up the monotony of leveling/gearing one class. As an aside, I actually am liking DRG a lot. It's not as complex as SMN, but it isn't completely simple either.

    Either is great

I main a SMN, but my secondary is a DRG. I have a lot of fun playing around with the SMN and I like being able to use different pets in different situations to add a strategic approach to the job. That'll only get better as new summons are released I hope. I also like the numbers that I put out as a SMN and I can tell you first hand that I don't do as much damage with my DRG.

I have fun playing with my DRG don't get me wrong. It's nice to have a melee job under your belt for several reasons. I don't have to wait 20 minutes in queue with my DRG (I myth and soldiery farm with him), some fights are just more preferable to a melee character than a caster and I can help out the group especially if there's a bard, and you just look completely b@d@ss.

In the end, it's all about the enjoyment of what you get out of playing that specific job. Who cares if you're not the highest DPS or absolute best. Afterall, they both have awesome uses and advantages no matter what party you run with.

Sounds as if you think DRGs can't do high dps. I promise they can.

I know they can. The problem is DRG imo is more complicated to play and thus people fail at it easier. I'm just pointing out the fact that you can help your group do overall more DPS if you run DRG and 2 BRD since all 3 are being given the additional pierce damage (given the fact that you're playing to your 100% capabilities). I'd love to play DRG in SCoB but I not doing so for 2 reasons: In T7 I'm the one who kites Renauds and I don't have an i100 weapon for T8.

I find SMN easier to play than DRG because there's no "perfect rotation" you need to worry about, just dots and Fester. Both are fun to play. In T8, both me (DRG) and our SMN do about the same dps-wise, around 370.

Speaking as someone with an i97 SMN and an i88 DRG its actually the opposite as far as effort goes. Dragoon is FAR more effort, you have like 20 buttons to press and a really long drawn out combo. Not to mention they have positional requirements, Its kind of crazy at times. Ill link this : http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...otation-Reborn

On topic: It depends on what kind of player you are. If your thinking just about 'does more DPS' then your thinking in the wrong way. Every DPS class at the moment is completely viable and able to dish out a lot of damage.

If you like your Dragoon stick with it, you will be able to get groups just fine if you are good.
