The way the current system is, you basically have 3 groups of people:
1) Hardcore PvPers who either trade wins, or solo queue, or otherwise spam PvP until they have a full set of iLVL 100 PvP gear (obtaining it VERY quickly) and just crushing anyone who opposes them because the gear gap is so huge that skill doesn't even matter anymore
2) Complete newbies who enter PvP with AF1 (or worse) gear, often not even with so much as a relic weapon, much less any PvP gear
3) Average players who are interested in PvP, but don't have the time to spam PvP forever to get the best gear quickly
I guess the current system is rad for Group 1, which is a total minority. Group 3 is probably the largest group, but I imagine most of them are quickly discouraging from PvPing after getting Group 1 on the opposite team and/or Group 2 on the same team often enough.
All in all, the way PvP is set up, doesn't really do much to encourage anyone new to try out PvP. No one wants to do 100s and 100s and 1000s of wins to get this stuff, besides I guess the win traders, and people who solo queue as tank. Everyone else has probably given up on PvP by now (and rightfully so).
The grind itself isn't necessarily the problem. Sure they could lower the cost of things or up the reward and such, but it's not going to really do anything in keeping a lot of people there. The current PvP games are a little too... redundant? The format is fine for purely tournament style play, and while there are people that prefer that, most folks grow tired of that format rather fast. It also doesn't help when the arena itself is just a small boxed area. Large scale battles are a must for the general populous, and hopefully Frontlines can be just enough of a chaos provider as is needed. Still, even that won't be enough over time. Objective based PvP can be quite helpful to add life to the feature, though I don't believe that it's really needed just yet.

It's not about that.
Winners or win traders will always remain leagues beyond the losers...
For instance, a group of 3 win trades to Rank 3 & they all get purify along with 1 PvP piece...
An unfortunate fresh pvp'r will lose nigh every time against them.
They don't stand a chance & therefore their growth will practically remain a pitiful rate in comparison to win-traders.
I personally have about a 65% win rate only ever solo-queuing & without ever having win-traded, so I'm not really speaking on my own behalf.
5:1 experience gain doesn't sound overboard to you, really?

To be fair to SE, I don't think we're supposed to have an easy or quick time going to 40. PvP is supposed to be a perpetual participation content. If we were able to make it to 40 in a patch, they'd have to up the cap again to keep players happy, which in turn just widens the gap between new players and veterans and makes it even less accessible.
It's a larger issue though because wintraders are able to grind it out anyway and have that shit within a month while those who actually play PvP as PvP suffer for it because the rewards aren't very large.

I agree with you... but between roughly 3,500 & 6,000 matches to get to Rank 40 is ludicrous. To be fair to SE, I don't think we're supposed to have an easy or quick time going to 40. Especially in view of win-traders & with regards to those who try to do it legit.
I could see 2,000-2,500.
So when Frontlines is out, they might as well just delete the Wolves' Den? I'm already worried enough at them implying Wolves' Den is the "real" PvP, they seem to have gotten it backwards. While we don't know the details yet, Frontlines sounds far more interesting than Wolves' Den, yet they're saying it's a good place to get started with PvP... Surely Wolves' Den should be where players start (it's even described as a training arena), it should have high EXP. Frontlines should be the "endgame" of PvP, with high Wolf Marks.
@Camate; There are no plans to increase rewards from PvP battles, but I recall there will be new Challenge Logs in 2.28 or 2.3, will some of those at least be for PvP?

10 minute fight for 60 xp is ridiculous. At least give higher xp/minute. I feel like I'm wasting my time WINNING. I could probably make more xp by just letting the other team kill me.

trade win can give you lot of mark, someone on Excalibur do that and already have 2 set 1 lion mane & 1 hawk
note: I am not telling you trading win, but rather I d like to remind the SE that the problem is still there and ppl are doing it, yesterday when I was fishing the player who got 2 set doing it, he keep die, and then win and repeat for over an hour
It's the queue times which are the problem, not the EXP gain. I'd be fine gaining the paltry amounts of EXP per battles, if I didn't have to queue for 45 minutes first. If an EXP buff will get more people participating then I am all for it.
