    Question on Scholar's pet

I'm playing a Summoner so I have a chance to do some healing form time to time with Scholar.

What I want to ask is when we will use Selene? Normally I would call for Eos, like, all the time, bind her skills to macro and get going. Never have a chance to think of Selene.

I think my heal gonna be a bit low since I don't put any point in Mind. Anyway I still manage to keep the tank alive for many dungeon (excepted Brayflox's speed run) any suggestion to make my Scholar better?

PS. How can you guy going on healing all the time? For me it's quite stressful

When you/your group can trivialize the amount of damage taken.
When literally no one else in your group can be trusted to stop a threatening cast.

    -Stack crit
-Know what's coming beforehand (lustrate for things you didn't see coming).
-Get cleric stance and pretend you're a summoner if a group is good enough to not need healing for ~10 seconds so you can DOT bane shadowflare. Stacking crit for adloquium helps you do this more.

I find the constant mental activity of paying attention, and pre planning what I'm going to do in what order to deal with a situation, and executing it perfectly relaxing.

I've even found keeping a MT getting beat by two dreads alive, the OT getting beat by every extra mob except one alive, and the WHM getting beat by the mob the OT missed alive all at once fun (even the WHM knew I saved that T4). Some would call that stressful. It felt like a flowchart to me.

Red bull and HP bar OCD also helps.

I find healing relaxing, I have no problems doing run after run healing. If you get stressed out everytime you heal then healing may not be for you.

I use eos whenever I know that the party won't be taking large amounts of damage, or if I'm playing with a skilled or overgeared whm that I trust to patch up the raid. Think of Selene as a 10% buff to the party's damage. Managing her cooldowns takes a bit of practice, but once you r got it down, a solid party will appreciate the damage boost.

In regards to stress, it's the nature of the beast. Try to keep a healing priority for when things get messy. Do your best to follow it and don't panic. Not healing at all is worse than sloppy healing. The hardest fights for me to keep focused in are fights that I don't know well yet. With practice, you learn to anticipate moves with adloquium/succor, and the strain becomes less for everyone. Keep at it, and you should find your groove for each fight.

And a quick tip for those brayflox speed runs, don't be afraid to spam adloquium, especially on the first pull. You'll need to be a bit cautious of the mp drain, but energy drain and aetherflow management make it a breeze. Scholar performs best by maintaining the tanks hp, compared to whm that excels at replenishing the tanks hp. It's a subtle nuance, but it's an important one.

Eos and Selene both provide the exact same healing with Embrace so the only consideration you really have to make about Eos v. Selene is whether you need the AoE healing that Eos provides (Eos also brings the 2 CDs, but those are of marginal importance in picking your fairy). If you need AoE healing, bring Eos. If you don't, bring Selene.

The speed buffs Eos provides amount to a 4-5% reduction in cast time/GCD, and they only have 50% uptime (30 every 60 and they're mutually exclusive). Selene is nowhere *near* a 10% buff to total damage. She's a 2-3% increase at best. She's not even all that useful for burst DPS because she can only buff either DoW or DoM at one time so half of your group is getting the buff while the other have isn't.

Selene's increase to party damage is only useful/valuable when the more numerically powerful tools that Eos brings are going to be wasted. You could quite easily never use Selene, and it's doubtful that anyone would ever notice specifically because her buffs are so small.

Also, you really don't need to micromanage Selene unless you're specifically trying to get her to use her interrupt at a specific moment (not really a major use for her, in my experience since it's on a 1 min CD). Her AI has her keeping one of the two up at all times, and the healing AI is perfectly fine (if Eos isn't healing someone, it's because their hp is above 90% and whatever heal you're throwing at them is already likely to be wasted; I have yet to see a situation where macroing was actually going to help because any time I need to have Eos spam into a single target with me, her AI already has her doing so; pre-2.1, when the fairies wouldn't use Embrace on their own while on Obey, sure, but, now that they'll use Embrace on their own no matter what, no real point).

While it's true you don't really need to micro Selene intensely to get decent enough results, not doing so is very detrimental to the overall HPS she dishes out. Also, Silent Dusk is on a 40s CD, not 1 min.

The auto-Embrace HP threshold is certainly not 90%, more along the lines of 75-80% (haven't tested this of late).

Regardless, spamming one's Embrace (or target's target Embrace if DPSing) on cooldown is one of the essentials and something a SCH main should get used to doing, because not proactively Embracing means that you will need to cast manual heals in the greater quantities, hindering your multitasking/off-DPSing abilities. Embrace is a good heal, but precasting it when someone is at full HP to 'not-below-the-auto-Embrace-threshold' is one of the very basics to keeping up with Embraces alone easier, allowing the SCH their own GCDs to be used as they please - usually in the form of off-DPS. This is one of the reasons why I would also never limit myself to having Eos-only on Obey, but also microing Selene 100% of the times.

80%, plus whatever delay the server/pet AI needs to register "hey, that guy hit 80%, I should do something about it."

For reference, auto-WD is 90%, auto-Covenant is 95%, and auto-Illumination is on cooldown.

I use Selene when I know the other healer. If I don't know them or I'm healing with them for the first time, I use Eos. If the other healer is slacking I use Eos. Other than that I always use Selene. When I'm new to something I use Eos because Whispering Dawn and her buffs can prove quite useful in situations I've never seen before and am not prepared to face.

Yep you're correct. I did overstate Selene's buffing ability (making forum posts at 5 in the morning does that). She likely won't be the make or break for a dps check, but it's not as if using Selene will decrease your party's dps. There's no reason to dismiss Selene as useless, just as there is no reason to say her buff is critical. If you find eos' cooldowns aren't of much use, may as well use Selene to burn a little faster.

I never use Eos anymore. WHM AoE capabilities are far superior. Fey Illumination every 2 minutes is not comparable imo to constant uptime of Fey Glow/Fey Light (since your party will always have at least 1 tank and 1 healer and 95% of the time 2 tanks and 2 healers someone will always benefit).

Also I love getting the crit spell speed buff while Fey Glow is active. Knocks a giant chunk off of cast time.
