Well, I'd like to think that the community team, as well as the localization team, is constantly working on various tasks and assignments in addition to the live letters.

I sincerely doubt those letters are scripted, and it takes time to transcribe a 150 minute video, select the portions deemed most valuable, have them translated into three languages (English, French, and German), and then have them proof-read to ensure there are as few mistakes as possible. (Because god knows everyone and their uncle will sift through any information given with a fine tooth comb.)

It takes time to get things done, and while two weeks is a bit long, I think its reasonable considering all they have to prioritize. If anything, assuming they're aware of the time required, I'd say the scheduling of the live letter with consideration for time required to translate is lacking.

was actually 3 weeks to translate, t was 2 weeks AFTER the PATCH that the live letter was mostly based around =P

and while I agree that people will nitpick anything and everything we did have a member of the community (Reinheart) who did a live translation, while I understand that the entire exchange my be not 100% scripted it is guidelined and mayhaps a live translation isnt possible but certainly in a week a subbed version (not a scroll down read whats going to happen scroll up watch video but an actual subbed video) could be possible while the information is still relevent

Honestly I'm not sure if this is serious. It should take a translator no more than 3x as long as what is said. It should be able to be roughly translated while reading through and rechecked and edited in that time. If someone needs to go into a dictionary that probably means they hired the person who made Google translate. This is a massive company, why can't they hire a freelancer translator once a month like they have had during gameshow events to show they care about all their communities. Some of you defending this act like they have no money and a translator for a few hours will set them back years.

If you were to take all the dialogue from a live letter and put it into a document, do you realize how large it would be, and how long it would take for an average translator to complete it?

Just so you guys know. Rein got his dream job at SE. Whether or not he ends up in FF14's department and given permission to translate, we won't know for sure until he come back and tell us.

I'd like to theorize that the reason he can't do fan translation anymore is because they might have given the official live translation job to him. Again we won't know for sure until this live letter.

How are we being ignored? The community team does like 60+ posts of translations for each live letter while it is happening. That is pretty good if you ask me better then not doing anything at all.

You and players like you are what's wrong with this forum. It seems many players are not ok with just the 50 to 60 questions answered.

However we want to enjoy and laugh and have a good time right along side the live letters. Be part of it so to speak. You can't really get the same immersion just reading the text afterwards. Plus there's comments, text on screenshots, and overall pleasure were missing out on. I for one would love to see what we are getting at E3 which will be a Fernhalwes or someone else right there and translating in real time. I even seen a gdc video where yoshida would speak and pause to allow translation to happen in real time. It didn't seem to bother him in the least bit. Please let these players have their say and maybe we and you could enjoy this more.
