Just to note, Rydia herself did have green eyes in her original character design:

It was only the DS remake that conclusively changed it to blue.

Green Eyes is indeed a Rydia reference on a meta level.

The Oeilvert stuff is fascinating, though. Wish that made it into the English version somehow

Other way round. Her eyes were blue, later changed to green.

EDIT: Many of the original drawn pictures of Rydia had here with green tinted eyes, but this was because of the painting style (One color, black and white). As a sprite, her eyes were blue and black, mostly, I assume, to keep her from looking like a small green slime fighting on your side.

I think it necessary to mention that 'blue' and 'green' are, all too often, the same color to certain cultures, or at least entirely interchangeable. So it may be that pointing out that her eyes were 'blue', or sometimes 'green' may just be that.

If an individual can't tell the difference between blue and green, it's more likely to be the fault of colour-blindness than his culture.

I know what you mean, of course. But the linguistic "quirk" you're thinking of is mostly unique to Japan. The Japanese use the same word, or kanji, to represent "blue" or "green", namely, (pronounced ao or sei, depending on context).

So, they would write 青天 (sei ten), or 青空 (ao sora) for "blue sky". And, just to confuse foreigners like us, they would also write 青田 (ao ta) for "green rice paddies". Some players may also recognise the name Seiryu (青竜), the Guardian of the East. His name is usually translated as the Azure (meaning, blue) Dragon.

And, to add to the fun, the Japanese do actually have other kanji to refer specifically to the colour green. There's (midori), for example. However, midori usually refers to a darker shade of green, while ao typically refers to a lighter shade of the colour.

    =======

Why do I say these quirks are unique to Japan?

Well, because no such confusion exists in Chinese, the language from which Japan borrowed most of its writing system.

For the Chinese, 青 is green, no doubt about it. And they use 蓝 to mean blue. And trust me, the Chinese will think you're weird if you describe the sky as 青.

Seriously, people shouldn't use "always" in every sentence...
FFIX has a link between one sumonner and her moogle friend.
In FFT, you can summon a moogle, and in FFVII, one appeared on the back of your chocobo summon.

How is "three times" "always" ?!

In this forum, "always" either means "very few" or even "only in FFXI"

There are quite a few people who think Final Fantasy started at 11, particularly when it comes to summoners.

Judging from other topics where "FFXIV BLM is not a real one because he only uses Fire, Blizzard and Thunder" or "Most of prévisous PLD had acces to Cure IV", SMN is not the only victim

Thes best I saw was "DRK's best weapon have always been Great Axes"...Mmmmm, no.

And Korea. Because why should Japan get to hog all the weird?

Well there are examples of old european cultures not differentiating between blue and green.. Primarily Ancient Greece, where the sky was referred to as "The Bronze" because they believed that it reflected the image of forests, lakes, and oceans. Of course, back then, very few cultures used colours to describe differences between objects.

I actually interpreted the wings as being from Garuda, and the tail from Ifrit.
But I can't find a clear Titan reference so my theory doesn't really hold up.
