The Green Eye's question has already been answered so that line of questioning is complete...

You ask about the dragon motif.... The Summoners horn has been in FF lore for a LOOOOOOONG time. You can say the most human summon in FFIV was Asura, and she rocked a horn while in the battle screen. The Summoner's horn was part of the job lore in FFXI, in FFIX Eiko wore a horn and there was a connection between it and her moogle buddy. So that part is more about the horn than that of a dragon.

As far as the body piece having dragon like aspects. I disagree... I See the wings and tail on the body piece being more reminiscent of Moogles which there have always been a connect between summoners and moogles. The wings are golden moogle wings, which are also short and stumpy like so...

Now the Allagan gear... sure I agree with you. But the AF gear... no way, the horn is FF lore, and the wings are moogle references, and I would assume the Summoner will eventually get a Moogle Companion (not a egi) but a companion exclusive (one that can be cross utilized, like the white mages getting their unicorn)

This encouraged me to take a much closer look at the SMN gear, as the wings are similar in size and shape to moogles'.

I dunno if I'm just looking for dragons and finding dragons, but...

Again, accuse me of seeing things if you will, but the SMN outfit has the same cold trim around the edges that the Binding Coil stuff does, so I'm just gonna go with it. Doesn't the summoner horn mirror Bahamut's "crown" very closely? One large horn (red for SMN, gold for Bahamut) with two smaller horns (gold on SMN, real horns on Bahamut) and two triangular wedges on the side of the head (gold for SMN, magitek for Bahamut)?

Also I'm pretty sure I see little dragons on the SMN waist, but that one's way more open to interpretation, lol.

This is also a nod to FFIX, funnily enough.

I think you're completely missing the point. Like you, and many others in this thread, I'm very aware of the many references being made in this game to earlier iterations of the summoner in the Final Fantasy franshicse. But I feel you're ignoring the key fact that each new Final Fantasy represents a fresh interpretation of very familiar concepts. So, while the horn and the wings of FFXIV's summoner AF gear may indeed be references to FF Tactics and FFIX, that by itself does not prevent the FFXIV lore team from coming up with new lore-specific reasons for such characteristics to appear in this particular version of the classic summoner costume.

So, yes, it's true that summoners have almost always been associated with the colour green. It's also very possible that the horns and wings of the current summoner AF gear may be references to Eiko's FFIX costume. But, within the context of FFXIV, I tend to agree with Anonymoose that the current summoner costume is more than likely related to the Allagan triumph over Bahamut, possibly the most powerful among Hydaelyn's many Primals.

Only time, and Square-Enix's staff, can truly tell.

Seriously, people shouldn't use "always" in every sentence...
FFIX has a link between one sumonner and her moogle friend.
In FFT, you can summon a moogle, and in FFVII, one appeared on the back of your chocobo summon.

How is "three times" "always" ?!

In this forum, "always" either means "very few" or even "only in FFXI"

There are quite a few people who think Final Fantasy started at 11, particularly when it comes to summoners.

I actually interpreted the wings as being from Garuda, and the tail from Ifrit.
But I can't find a clear Titan reference so my theory doesn't really hold up.
