    You don't give buttons to "special" moves that are used rarely, you give buttons to the most common moves and actions. Since, you know, they're the ones that are accessed most frequently (and usually at a moment's notice).

    If we followed your design, you'd have to type out a combo on your keyboard/controller to confirm an action, but self-cast Shock Spikes would have it's own button on the controller.

    Yay!!!! But wait? Does swimming ADD anything significant to the current gameplay? Oh no!! It probably wouldn't!! Swimming is baaaaad! *gasp!* *flails around*

    *cough* No but really I'd love to see swimming content but just like jumping I won't expect it until a dev confirms it, this being SE and considering how conservative they can be about such things. Still it would add a lot to the immersion factor of this being a world and not just a game.

    I've got an idea for Randis' next project...
    draw a bunch of horses....
    Name them "Jump" and "Auction House" and "Gear Swap" (The list could go on and on)

    The kicker is that the horses are dead....

    Now draw in a bunch of Roegadyn beating the horses with no mercy....

    you don't know what words mean! According to you, jump is something we're already using and quite frequently, as if the addition of a seperate jump button was something we've all been working around in desperation... There is no reason to jump & no one in their right mind is jumping all over the place IRL. MY way is simple, put jump on the action bar, most of you play with keyboards so you'd just be pressing a number, any number 1-0. Gosh! The action bar is going to change, thats already been said. IWhat exactly are you proposing in contrast with my idea, other than denial?

    jumping up/down obsticals is a physical stupidity. have you ever jumped down a hill? perhaps you've tried jumping up a hill? DERP! Do you fancy self inflicted bodily harm? Jump is for fun/effect/gaps/grasp thats right grasp! to reach with your hands what was too high before. no one jumps like you think they do... but if it had to be mapped to a button, id say the passive/active mode switch is best.

    No duh there's no button for a feature that hasn't been implemented yet. Do you even take a moment to read over what you write, or do you just start typing whatever stupid thing comes to mind and hit the "Post Reply" button as soon as you're done? People are asking for jump because it gives a third dimension to the game, which opens up a lot of possibilities in terms of combat and exploration. There is absolutely no reason why a common, innate action that each character comes with should be on the action bar. It's not tied to classes. You don't see emotes on the action bar, do you?

    And for the record, I do jump in real life, because I'm not a boring, unfit slob and it's faster to get past an obstacle by climbing or jumping over it than finding another way around. But that has nothing to do with it, because this game is not realistic and will never be. Take your realism and shove it.

    Yeah, actually, I have jumped down small hills, slopes and ledges before. It's faster and safer, assuming that you're fit enough to jump.

    Hmm yeah actually???? O.o Have you not? And why not? I've jumped over, hopped over, stepped over, a lot of things in my day. Have you ever been hiking? I'm starting to wonder if some of you guys have ever been in natural environments before, you really can't get around NOT at least hopping over stuff or down stuff. NOBODY walks around a small ledge to get down in real life like we do in FFXIV. I thought the last pathing revision would fix that but it does not, enters jump function.

    Again a jump features doesn't have to mean we're going to be able to jump 10 feet in the air, it will probably just be high enough to clear obstacles and probably won't be such a visual eye sore as you are fearing.

    I know, right?

    If you guys keep bringing up you not jumping IRL, just don't use jump once its implemented. Nobody's forcing you to jump over obstacles. Walk around or find another way like you would IRL.
