You need special training to be able to jump? I must be a natural born martial arts expert and/or ninja then.=| jump should be ability like everything elsse... it just makes sense that way. need martial artist disciple. tumble jump dodge etc. think RPG! wow jump is blatant departure from RPG mechanic all around, probably why no1 likes iddea... sory im typing on stick keys & ps3 interface randomly ddeletes my entire paragraph, so dontcaremuch...HAPPY
wouldn't exactly be 'special' but yeah, you got it. we need 'special training' (as you put it) to run faster than normal, so makes sense for jump, but obviously should be level 1 action... think of the system as is, martial art could be innate, but still.. point being the action bar is devoted to actions (devoted) & the ps3 controller is short on buttons AS IS... try gamepad much? role playing games have a surplus of actions, confirm cancel are also devoted functions... we're running out of space... fat people don't really jump, and some people are clumbsy.. like me with words. did i mention its a role playing game? the whole game genre is built upon experience points adding up to equate your skillz..... jump button is like a slap in the face to those in the know. the correct favorable addition is a jump ability associated with a class, even if that class is available from th get go without distinction (martial).

Jumping is not a special ability. It's something every person is born with and can learn, unless disabled. It's like saying running/walking should be a class skill. It doesn't make sense.
Quickstride is a skill you learn to run super fast. I guess all class should have a move-fast skill that they learn at rank 1, amirite? I mean, who doesn't know how to sprint; you basically sprint once you are born; however, at least I did.

anyway. the final fantasy series have had jumping in their cgi's for quite some time. Hell, tidus and co were sliding along support beams like they were surfing it in one scene. Lightning jumped huge distances only to land safely. Hell, she bounced off walls slaying guards in a train in the first chapter. Versus 13 has the guy teleporting in and out slashing enemies up the side of the building.
Add that shit to your gameplay already.
I could understand in the past we had hardware limitations. But we see this sort of stuff in other games.
the point about jumping being something everyone can do is true, im not saying we shoul dhave to work to get it, however there is too much opprotunity to add something VERY special alongside jumping.. its funy that my post got the reply about being a natural born martial artist/ninja... funny because it is true! picking a discipline in the character creation screen is kind of a drag (but doesnt need to go in my mind by necessity)... what i think would be ideal is your first class is martial & everyone has it. Why just add jump when you can make jump a level 1 martial skill? The more you jump the more martial SP & eventually you unlock advanced abilities... its an opprotunity to NOT just do what everyone 3expects and provide a more engrosing gameplay mechanic to an already worn out function. there is no denying the fact that a lot of people would rather not jump, but to convince them you must make it special & i think what i'm proposing is pretty much leet.
my ps3 only lets me type so much, so sorry multi-posting... i don't know why, but a lot of mmo players seem to be deprived. enjoy a casual game of D&D, see the light, you'll probably agree with me. the part of the game that keeps us coming back is the part that rewards us for doing. there is no reason not to apply this everywhere possible, in fact it would be a damn shame not to. Honestly, what is it about me saying it that turns people off? Admit it! why else would you spend your time grinding to the cap? ITs rewarding, but plain-ol-jump is the pitts... jump with a cause a reason and method... thats what you really want, thats why wow noobs wont stop... they are searchintg for something they'll never find... depth of pounce got left behind

Pretty sure in the FF universe Jump is looked more towards the Dragoon/Dragon Knight ability rather than the 'natural function' which is the 'should be a skill' argument is basically boiled down to -- the natural jump were always automated jumps anyway.
& if you don't know how to play D&D, rejoice! I'm telling you. Forget the books, heck forget the dice if uo have to! Just sit down with friends and imagine your fantasy, if your into that, you should play god first but take turns being god, god just flips a coin & may choose to talktalktalk (gods character can play too). set limits, like 3 special skills to start, one extra per level. Things anyone can do are implied but don't forget attributes (the six in XIV are fine) be fair to npcs, random attribtes are fine! challenge the characters. use common sense, attributs apply to everything, always use coin/dice to determine success/failure then again for effect (how well you fail/win),you wish to Jump? how far? FLip (sucess!) flip again (but not far enough) "Jump halfway to you doom!" you really only need to write down some numbers & skills, dnd rules are anti-play-NOW. close your eyes, its a creative exercize!

& I suppose you think a 'jump button' isn't special at all.. Now you're not making any sense! How about esc/cancel cancel spells & jump gets a facelift? You're not seeing my idea here.. Why add a special jump button, when martial arts can replace physical level? LEvel one martial art is JUMP! obviously, whatelse would it be? the awesome is acquiring MORE & various kinds of bodily functions, like TUMBLE, HIGH JUMP, SNEAK, HIDE, heck maybe CLIMB & so on... it would really just be an instant fun animation/interaction class for everyone to enjoy in a similar fasion to skills (disciplines)... get it? ask questions if not. Why just go through the motions when you can take advantage and produce something better? thats what SE wants, thats what we all want! we want people to come to our game, just having what everyone else has isn't enough, you have to innovate!
