In some games, the shout command is capped so you can only utilize it every 15 minutes or every 10... And people rarely argues about it, it is how it is stated to use shout, for something exceptional.

Tell is something a little more difficult to block this way...

I don't suggest that SE limit the number of /tells you can send per minute (well, perhaps to something reasonable like 10---that's one every 6 seconds). I think they should limit the number of different players that you can send /tells to per minute. 5, say.

Can I add this to the main post too? It is just changing the method, but whatever they'd use will be more than nothing, and this method-filter would also work fine in my opinion! ^^

    Sure.

And I heartily support the idea of suspending/banning "legit" players' accounts who trade with gilsellers. If people could be made afraid of dealing with RMTs, then the spam would stop.

Thanks, and aye... Call me a fool or naive if you want, but... I really really think that, if people know that they are not able to buy gil because they'll get banned, and SE will know they bought it. (And they really can know it) then they wouldn't even try, by fear.

It is said.. That there's almost no RMT in japanese servers, I can't know if that's certain because didn't try... But, if that is... Maybe... Maybe...It is because people is not buying there?

While I partially agree, I don't think that this is a good idea.

First of all, the amount of additional resources SE would have to put into the RMT effort would go through the roof, if you think a small handful of people can investigate all of the legit accounts that buy gil then I think you're underestimating the amount of people who buy gil. As you guys pretty much said, if people weren't buying gil the RMT wouldn't be putting as much effort into their cause.

Secondly, the receiver can always claim ignorance and unless they specifically mention buying gil in game you can't really suspend/ban somebody for accepting a "random friend request". I'm pretty sure if you openly admit to buying gil in the in game chat they will already suspend/ban you if somebody reports it. One option might be to just remove the gil from their account, haha but the last time they did that people were outraged.

Overall I think there is a lot more overhead to these issues than people consider. Yoshi specifically said he's not interested in putting limits on tells such as level restrictions so I'm sure he's considered this as an option. I am all for restricting tells until level 10 because I do think it would have a significant impact on that part of things, but people would still find a way to complain about it.

Personally I've found that the number of RMT tells I've been receiving on Cactuar is probably at about 1/10 of what it was a few months ago and that's good enough for me, I don't expect SE to lose their shirt over this, there's not a single successful MMO out there that doesn't have RMT and I think people underestimate the amount of money/time that would go into some of these methods. To this day I've never met a person who quit the game over RMT but I've sure met an awful lot that quit due to lack of content, so I would prefer that's where they put most of their money.
