if it was the 9th book, it might be 13.5k to get again, if they don't keep track of it when you trash away the only key item you have

You don't have to purchase the books in any sequence, other than that doing the first book for a stat unlocks the second etc., and you can't "lose" completed books because they just modify your weapon (unless you deleted your weapon, I suppose).

Having to grind 1500 mythology again is certainly a pain, but I think it's the best option really.

I can't imagine using it for anything that's not otherwise irreplaceable, or at least something that you have a very low chance of getting back. A lost Trials of the Brave book can easily be reacquired for a few hours' investment.
