They go by greed I knew a few on FFXI had the most dumbest rules and never followed their own rules when people were running separate runs from outside the Linkshell, so yeah anyone who joins those things should leave quit fast and now.

IIRC, FFXI I saw a few different systems. First was the 'points' system, where you could bid up to a certain # of points based on attendance in raids to get your piece of armor. You could easily show up only to what you wanted to, but most likely, that would mean you wouldnt' get geared nearly as fast, so it encouraged consistency.

You had loot council, too, which was -always- rough. I hated loot council, because it always encouraged feelings of bitterness and people inadvertently always thought, "Oh, I didn't get my piece of gear - the leader must be a biased!" It was always a rough system.

Anyways, as far as not joining parties where leaders reserve gear for themselves - I've noticed it's never been much of a problem. Most people don't really care about anything except the job they're going on. When people make Black Mage lock-outs (or any other class), the only thing it does is causes that class not to want to join (unless they're after a different piece that isn't locked, which like I said - I am more than willing to pass.)

I did have a slight issue with a Greed>Need party (Based on job) last night where a Black Mage rolled Need, and proceeded to leave the party once he had his pants/belt (Instead of letting the White Mage who also called Greed for Black Mage loot roll as well.) Most of us in the party reported him, but it's impossible to tell if any sort of penalty is levied against such a person, you know?

Well let me tell you how greedy this guys shell was. when I first joined I was told I was main samurai, I came on time every event for my DKP pool, I was supposed to get the masamune the person I worked on sword with lied to me saying coins were better even leader of shell did made me ruin my sword so that this other person can obtain the real masamune, this was before data about the weapon came out so I had zero idea till later but they apparently figured it out, the two were in on it together after he got the masamune he quit game.

The rules of the shell if you didn't show up for 2 days you couldn't lot though the leaders could leave and still lot even players who were friends with leaders.

Second rule your pop your drops, though if you had all pops except 1 and they helped get the item you get 1 item out of your pop and people get to lot on stuff but generally that wasn't the case the leaders were lotting everything, also leaders were missing a item the rule didn't apply to them.

though after the masamune thing I quit that shell, someone quit after telling me I was right because leader quit after he had gotten all loot.

Also rule nobody from his shell can help you with relic weapons or armor or you would get kicked even if they were in his own shell.
