It says that generic he and they can both be used, so why link us to something that supports the use of generic he which is the whole reason you made this complaint thread?
Damn. That sucks, dude.My character name is a female name. My character is female. Yet I still get people calling me "he" in chat every time.
Not only is the assumption that I apparently "must" be a guy rather insulting, but it's also kind of a painful one. I'm a trans woman. Being called "he" really hurts, and playing a female character with a female name should be sufficient to get gendered as female. And if people aren't sure they could at least ask.
Pretty much the only thing I could do about this beyond what I have already is start off every party with, "By the way, I'm a girl." Not only does it feel obnoxious and tedious to have to do, but I'm well aware of how many in the gaming community react to someone being visibly female.
But overall? If you can't be bothered to ask, please just gender based on avatar. It's far simpler and less insulting than assuming every player is a guy.
this. a million times this. i'm tired of being labeled as a girl, but i'm also not the type of girl who'd like to announce everytime she's a girl. so please, use 'they'![]()
Yeah I figure I'll give it a quick power nap and if the OP is still just brushing everyone aside and the fighting gets worse I'll probably report the thread so a mod at least looks at it
NP, bro!
I'll definitely using "they" from now on. Gotta be careful not to make assumptions on someone's gender.![]()
For making the point that singular usage of They not only has precedence but is "increasingly accepted" in American English.

Alot of people are against that aswell. I am not solely because I know the relevance of what gender you biologically are in those papers, if I didn't know I would probably fight for that cause aswell. And I think it's stupid that this is the point of contention in the large, vast world of complications non-binary gender identity stuff has. "This is where I draw the line." Seems really goofy when you still have to check one of two boxes on your physician's documentation.
But enough about that, that is just circumventing your point.
I am going to tackle it instand
The difference between those documents you mentioned and those in this game are two:
1. You chose what box you shall check when you make your character.
2. It bears no relevance, Ok, maybe not none, there are some looking for a girlfriend to have IRL in these kinds of games, but I am usually considerate enough to tell them that I IRL am a physical male (and usually if they further ask about it add that I consider myself ungendered) if they show any "interest".
The reason why I personally "draw the line" here is because there is nothing justifying to by default call a female character for he. I understand if someone calls a character whose avatar they have never seen with a name like "Killer Gnome" for the wrong gender by mistake, but some people go on calling female characters for he just because they are used to do it. People chose what gender they want to be in Eorzea and I think we shall respect that choice![]()

Well Tc is obviously a troll. *he* is acting like a child. He's trashing anyone who doesn't believe in his ways, and With people being nice or otherwise it gets no end.
So. Tc, it's decided that your too soft for the internet. If you can't handle someone calling you he, then there's something wrong. Hello kitty online is over there - - - >
I hear it's friendly.
Also,
Proof your a girl and not a guy??
I didn't ready *everything* but I didn't see anyone ask for proof... How do we know you are what you say you are?

I can't believe there are still people making 'there are no girls on the internet' comments. That joke is a decade out of date.
That aside, I sympathise with the OP, but this thread was never going to end well. There isn't a MMO community in the world where the majority of people would care about something like this, rather than just going 'not my problem idc stop whining lol'.
...I think you know exactly what you did there, and I hope you know that it does not make you a good person.
