It becomes that way because that's how our vocabulary is structured and developed. You want the real answer? Go ahead and spend the next 2,000 hours of your life delving deep into the creation of the English language and how it got to be the way it is today; I ain't got that time for that.

I continue to fail to understand why you so desperately need to be identified as a woman in a video game, a make believe setting that has no barring on the real world, where we'll never see your face or know who you really are. If some one in a group just began to assume I was a female because of my supple features and boyish haircut; that'd be fine, because I really don't care, and neither should you.

Uh... I'm called a "she" everytime, and I'm a guy. Some guys think I'm a girl even after I tell them I'm a guy.

I would probably be in the camp where I would prefer to be corrected. You are in a very small minority, which of course disprivileges you of being referred to correctly at first meeting. Given that player genders are unknown, the majority default to he, given the majority of players are male, or at least perceived as such.

While this provides little relief on your plight, I hope my response paints a less jarring picture of the player base you're having difficulties with. Were someone to step on your toe, you would let them know. Approach this the same way. It's an accident, which your identity in conjunction with this particular online community makes you prone to. I would note that were you communicating in a trans specific community these accidents would likely not happen, as everyone has a similar background from which to form their behavior towards others.

I don't believe I have much other way to remedy this for you or any woman playing who is misgendered as male. It's just an accident, and I believe it comes with the territory.

It's in reality where these accidents would worry me if I were you.

I guess... in order to no offend anyone by saying "he", we should use "it" instead.

Or we can use other terms like "midget", "knife ears", "generic rpg human", "stereotypical rpg muscle race", "cat", etc. Since the terms are not gender locked like "he" or "she".

You make it sound like not stereotyping every gamer as a guy is a lot of work. Nobody's asking you to fix the English language! But being mindful of your own language might not be a bad start.

It's an MMO, people can play whatever race/gender they want and it doesn't mean they are the same gender IRL. I just refer to "them" or by name to avoid those issues lol. I still believe at least 75% of female chars in games especially mmo's are guys IRL. (Including me)

Not only is the assumption that I apparently "must" be a guy rather insulting, but it's also kind of a painful one. I'm a trans woman. Being called "he" really hurts, and playing a female character with a female name should be sufficient to get gendered as female. And if people aren't sure they could at least ask.
Not to belittle your situation, but not everyone who plays a female character with a female name is in fact female, or a trans female, nor do they appreciate being categorized as a female at all times. Some people play female characters for a wide variety of reasons.

In my case I play female characters because I find the female body more aesthetically pleasing and it is what I prefer to spend 4 to 8 hours a day staring at instead of a male body. That said I am not going to give a female character a male name, that is just weird.

I don't usually jump to any conclusions until I've chatted with them a few times casually.

In my own sexist way, I suppose, I can usually tell which players are male and which are female regardless of their avatar.

Guys don't usually mention having to go change a diaper before a battle. Women don't usually have to smoke a blunt before battle.
BUT I have been wrong before
