I have a lot of fun doing math and programming battle systems. I can promise you a lot of people don't have fun doing math. You can't determine what is and isn't fun to people -- however you must have forgotten that RPGs and MMORPGs are all about calculation and math -- well I guess western RPGs weren't.You're sitting here, and saying with a straight face that you want to play a video game where you have to plan your individual attacks?
Really?
The fun is figuring out how to beat boss mobs, or the mechanics of an instance, or how to get the most damage out of a class.
The fun is not sitting there optimizing your timing for when you're hitting the /ra button, to keep yourself from playing at a disadvantage against those who the system hits the button for.
Funny you should say this, my first job was in fact, RDM in FFXI. And up until dnc it was my go to job for soloing and always my job in beseiged and campaign. You couldn't get anywhere without thinking a few moves ahead.
I like games like that. I keep playing games like that.
I thought they were about becoming a different person and growing as a character, and doing so in a virtual social setting.I have a lot of fun doing math and programming battle systems. Ever since the P&P days it's been about math. Even now in the age of RPGs and MMOs that are pretty much played for you there's still a lot of math involved -- how else would people know they need x amount of dex/str to show results that their speed/attack/damage would increase? It's well known the RP aspect of the genre is dead because sadly, people only cared for the loot and bragging rights.
I don't know a lot of people who actually calculate the exact amount of stats they need to increase their such and such by this and that. I know they want to know how much they can increase it by until it stops becoming effective. It's not so much math as seeing the results.Ever since the P&P days it's been about math. And only the "hardcore" are into RPGs for the l00t bragging rights. Other people are there to have fun, calculations or not.

Some good ideas in this thread, I just find the idea of hitting a mob with your bare fist as an archer doesn't seem to fit.
Until I get my hands on it, I won't know for sure, but guess I'll have to wait and see.![]()
