I'm fine with the idea of roaming NM's. With that said Camping an NM/HNM for hours/days/weeks/years just isn't acceptable in the new gaming world. Prime example is YYR(Ying Yang Robe) NM the guy who made this NM in FFXI made me want to beat him xD

    Shikigami Weapon
Timed Spawn every 21 hours(Earth time) directly from last Time of Death.
Spawns with an innate Invisible effect that does not appear until aggroed. (Had to use magic to make him show himself while standing in middle of a bunch of magic agro mobs)
It is possible to outrun Shikigami Weapon and lose aggro. Take care when pulling.
Yea i guess its a cool design in theory but when your camping that for weeks on in while out claiming bots(*cough* trying to out claim bots) It becomes uncool very very fast.

To be honest with you a Large problem with the game is it has almost no social aspect to it and no motivation to be social (mainly DF most runs you say hey at start of run and silence the rest of the time) But ive seen PF groups that didn't talk and yes i know its coming ( join a FC do stuff with them/ but i have one) that's not the point yea DF is great for getting a Party (spent hours/weeks trying for pt in xi sitting at Outpost lol) just no motivation to talk to ppl you'll prob never see again. which leads to ppl trolling for the same reason.
Yea OP is right game has no soul one reason is this above ^

Yes, agree the maps could use some more "life" to them for lack of a better word. There are a few areas are really neat (Corathas, Mor Dhona), but 2 of the main areas are pretty unvaried. Forest forest and more forest, and desert desert and more desert. La Noseca is a bit more varied with coastal, forest, and swampy areas. (and I get the feeling the first two only work because they're each a single zone) However, even in the good areas, there's a lot of lack of "Oooh!" factor.

For twelve's sake though, we don't need open world bosses. Yeah, having random bosses pop up in the world would be cool, though we kinda have that already (as much flak as the FATE system gets). However, after taking a small break and trying out Elder Scrolls: Online, I was reminded on how the problems of having open world bosses are WAY WAY worse and obnoxious then not having any. I will take a FATE any day over the overcamped, immersion breaking, bot farmed mess that open world bosses were in ES:O.

No scrolls. It's just an outdated obnoxious mechanic that puts more busywork between me and actually playing, like having to wait for caster's mana to regen before being able to pull again.

Fire the people who came up with the RNG fate grind immediately. If anyone from ffxi has some input, please fire them immediately. XIV is amazing when the garbage from XI has no influence on content. XI had its moments however, XI is dead let's bury it next to one of them M.Night Shyamalan movies.

What I would really like to see is more depth to the current system. I would create some random spawn mobs in the open world that had a chance to drop something nice, like the material needed to upgrade weathered or something. Not a guarantee mind you.

Then I would add some additional strategy based trash to the first 3 turns in coil with 2 optional mini bosses that would drop these upgrade items rather than the big bosses. That way teams could pass them by if they did not want to do them or bring less experienced members with them that could handle these encounters then form up their main group to do the big bosses in the later turns. In addition I would make these first couple of turns respawn more often so people would have something to do and could better include members of their linkshells to help them progress.

"Challenging Fates" just feels like it's whether you have the numbers or not and not much tactics involved. Players don't have to be in a party and work together. NMs/HNMS are more design for party and require some strategy and co-op.

If you don't like the teleporter than don't use it. I happen to like them. It annoyed me how long it took to get around in FFXI. I would quit if SE made porting more expensive. I AM TRYING TO SAVE MONEY FOR A HOUSE! I do not need anything more expensive tyvm.

    LEAVE THE TELEPORTERS ALONE !!!

I disagree somewhat. Stereopes is my favorite Fate in the entire game (I will actually sync and go participate if its up while I'm out and about) because there aren't AOE markers, there are adds everywhere, there are people dying everywhere and its about as chaotic as anything can actually get without being Odin/Behemoth or in an instance. Because people are running around, you can't just cheese it out like the Svara strategy, as someone's going to aggro adds at some point while running from tonze or something.

Yes, you can continue to throw people at it until it goes down, but anything in the game that isn't in an instance is going to have that.

Actually, everyone keeps talking about strategy and co-op being necessary for these, but I can't find any strategies for actually tackling one of these that aren't Absolute Virtue (and lol at that), other than "can be solo'd by x class using y" and literally nothing else. Someone can take one of these and give a memorable example of a strategy needed to defeat one? I'd load a video, but I'm pretty sure I would either get a challenge/solo video, or one that makes the entire encounter look trivial.

Hmm the song got removed from this vid but I like it. At around 3:10 mark you can play the song Fields of Hope (original song used). I think most mmos look trivial when you watch it rather than play it especially if you don't understand the fight and because FFXI is slower combat. Like watching friends play single rpgs zzzzzz.

Or .. if anyone on Hyperion could msg Solo Playa and tell him to read this that could help as well. Hope this wasn't annoying for you ppl to read!

Agreed, but what we have here is a bunch of players who want an Open World MMO (ex-FFXI players) and a newer generation of MMO players who prefer the Themepark MMO. I don't think the FFXI players will go away, when I talk to my JP friends most are FFXI players and they say they complain just as loudly or more loud about the game on the JP forums.

I don't want to force anyone to play the game in any style, we need a hybrid MMO, I think the themepark players already got Duty Finder, teleports and their end-game content. It's time we look at the good open world MMO aspects of FFXI and voice an opinion that Yoshi refocus his efforts there.
If he keeps going down the themepark route to the extreme, you'll just be left with the themepark MMO crowd who will eventually get bored and move onto something else, but like others said FFXI had a really stable population, so it's only with balance that FFXIV can survive in the long term.

Have you looked at the Paths feature in Wildstar? There are actually exploration quests and hidden areas in the open world, and the risk of death! (you can raise on the spot for a gil cost) otherwise you respawn with durability hit, not too bad.
