That grind made people to actually be good at their job. It was rare to run in to crappy players at higher levels.

And those other things that you thought was boring.. and while sometimes they where. They made Vana'diel feel like a real world.

BTW, not sure why people think it's only nostalgia that makes people think highly of FFXI. Just see how stable the server population was over 7ish years. I have not seen another game with that kind of stable population, so it must have done something right, right?
