It can be done. Wow did it. Well a wow modder did, by developing a chat mod that read your incoming tells for certain words and word combinations. In result it blocked the seller, send a message to the devs and prevented you from ever seeing the tell.

So yes it can be done and square has to do something

I'd rather buy some bandwidth. I just came back and am installing again. 4GB before I go in to Patch mode.

The spam was getting less and less until it suddenly exploded again recently. Right around the time the PS4 version was released, in fact. Which leads me to believe that it's either RMT scum trying to mass market to the new player base again, or some of the new players are actually buying gil. Both, most likely.

As someone who upgraded from PS3 to PS4 it sickens me. However, I'm fairly certain that as the player base "levels out" after the free trial period we should see a decrease in tells again. In the meantime, I'll keep deleting the first 50 names on my blacklist every so often to make room for more.

I'll go straight to answer the OP's question.

You have all that RMT spam because there are a good number of idiots (yes, I never call bad names to anyone but this case is the exception) who effectively BUY their services, thus making their (illicit) market profitable and if you really have to blame someone, you need say thank you to that people.

There is two reasons behind this and therefore two groups of people to blame.

Group one: The scrubs that buys gil. The scrubs buy gil to pay group 2 to carry them.

Group two: The run sellers. In what realistic way would a scrub who needs to L2P get several KK to pay for the run? RMT ofcourse. These are the people that makes so that there is a "use" for RIDICULOUS amounts of gil in the game.

This existed in FFXI and does exist in FFXIV. Just take a look at how they write some of the /tells. They use excessive punctuation and replace letters with symbols etc. I don't think XIVs filter is as tight as FFXIs though and probably because things have changed since FFXI came out. In FFXI it was pretty much impossible to legitimately send someone a URL because of the filters. You can't filter like that anymore because sending URLs is way too common a practice now for legit players. Just blacklist and move on. Also banning the spammers and bots is useless because they just create more.

majority of mmos will never stop rmts plain and simple rmts buy copies of the game in bulk thus the game company is making money regardless so they dont really care 2 most game companys and rmt sites have a contract so the company gets a cut of there profits 3 its a business they want money money and more money and will do what there board says to make more money and spend less money and no ammount of complaining will ever change this anyone who works for a corporation or is management positions already knows this to be the way of life

SE could easily deal with it... Like I say in every post on this subject they could just make an autoban bot and sit it somewhere like a inn room no one is going to send a random tell to a random character they never see. Character receives tell, character bans sender of said tell. Drop 1 on each server guess what faster solution with only the initial manpower of making this program used and if some random guy can make a telehack bot within 6hrs of the game being out I am sure SE programmers can make one easy enough considering they have the source code.
