Attitudes like that only manage to set back whatever cause you think you're championing. You can't force a person to think or feel a certain way, and trying will get you a lot of bad will at best, and cause a violent backlash at worst.

It's not about forcing people to change how they think, and in fact nothing in my declaration was about directing attack at individuals. You are both completely misinterpreting my words. It's about altering the way systems around them function so that they can begin existing in a different world. Over time, as they become immersed in that world, they'll adapt. That's why I think the best thing for SE to do is just implement marriage without gender restrictions, without any fanfare or debate or any other shenangans like public votes or whathaveyou. Just do it and let the community settle.

Y'know, out of all the games I played, the only MMO's where there have been "issues" about same-sex anything are the games where the DEVELOPERS themselves make it a big deal.

Seriously? Straight people flaunt their sexuality? You can't talk to somebody in the LBGT "community" without them shoving it down your throat at every turn about how much they love the same sex.

I have to assume you've never read any books, watched any tv shows or movies, or generally gone outside and observed couples in real life. Heterosexuality is everywhere.

And to add: The person who pointed out that this doesn't just affect people who are homosexual in real life has it spot on. I would love to be able to marry my manqo'te to my fiance's manqo'te. So there's that, in addition to the whole having empathy thing and understanding the plights of others.

It would be refreshing to see marriages not limited by gender in the game. As long as the rings don't have to match M+F, I don't see any aesthetic reason that it couldn't happen.

I have 3 Fantasia potions on my character so I plan to sex change, marry to my bf character, activate every possible event/mecanic/dialogue/item possible, and change back to male just to see the system collapse on itself.

Thus the 7th Astral era came to an end.

I'm really not sure why same sex marriages are an issue in a game that would allow cat people to marry (bestiality themes) and includes a race of child like characters (pedo themes)... I mean there is much more controversial stuff going on here than same sex marriage. I guess these things aren't seen as taboo in their culture (or are at least more socially normalized perversions) - so they don't get a second thought.

Either they should allow same sex marriages, or stay out of this area all together. Not because it's such a huge issue of equality (although it is), but because if they prohibit it based on some kind of physically intimate overtone, then they are really stepping in it with the other stuff they ARE allowing. That isn't even to bring up the idea that little kids could be playing this game.

I remember in EQ, when you wanted to get married, you had your guild get together and you called a GM - who at our wedding gave out cookies and milk... which was kind of funny. It was all very personalized, and there was none of this junk at issue. They would also change your last names to match if you wanted.

Frankly this system seems completely inappropriate to me. What happens if your significant other gets killed? Do you get a debilitating debuff called depression? Boy, that seems like fun. It's all a little too Sims for me.

Wherein lies the irony? All I say is that discrimination is discrimination. Who am I discriminating by questioning a discriminating system? Sure, ignorant you might call me, maybe I am. But I find it that this would be an unnecessairy limitation that would cause more harm than good.

Okay I'm lost that people have a concept of projection of their values and their real world views onto a video game. It's not real unless you are one of those types of fundamentalists that like to force your views and beliefs onto people and or your character in a RPG. Of which case there are far more things wrong with people like that.
