I'm just trying to figure out what's the point of have FC housing, FC personal rooms and personal player housing?

FC Housing is amazing. Our FC hangs out there constantly between runs. We have the market board and bell right outside and merchants and menders inside. It's a one stop shop for almost everything we need. Add that on top of keeping our FC community tighter because we run into each other at home all the time. They are a wonderful investment to any FC serious about building a community.

The question I'm asking is why does there need to be three different types of housing? It seems a bit redundant if you ask me.

Everyone enjoys different things in the game. Why do we need glamour? Why do we need different armor models? Why do we need crafting? Why do we need different mounts? Why do we need minions? This could go on forever. We don't NEED any of it, every player enjoys different things. Nothing wrong with options.
FC housing is pretty limiting, as only a small part of each fc can fully enjoy it.

It's just a thing that gets done from time to time in MMOs. As the genre gets older, we move further away from older philosophies (such as MMOs intentionally being a second fantasy life), but there are aspects that still appeal to people. The idea of residential or group gathering is common. The aspect of having residential areas (essentially your home) and a gathering point (your FCs clubhouse) is not much different than it would be if it were "real". FC rooming is a little unnecessary, but it probably serves the purpose for people who don't have a lot of gil and either refuse or fail to learn how to make more quickly. Afterall, everyone needs a home, right?
