I'd rather see it delayed than having a crappy Personal Housing and see people come to forums to whine.

FC Housing is amazing. Our FC hangs out there constantly between runs. We have the market board and bell right outside and merchants and menders inside. It's a one stop shop for almost everything we need. Add that on top of keeping our FC community tighter because we run into each other at home all the time. They are a wonderful investment to any FC serious about building a community.
lol there's no point to any housing. People just like playing dress-up.
Not that I don't enjoy our mansion.
I'd actually prefer it if personal housing was simply room instances that you can decorate rather than a carbon copy of FC housing. Let FC housing be a unique thing so it has it's niche/point.
I thought it was pretty common knowledge. I guess if you weren't following housing news since 2.0 you may not have known. I would have to look through the live letters before 2.1 to find exact quote.Yeah, I'd also like to know where the OP got the idea that housing was ever promised 6 months after 2.1? My memory of the issue seems to recall that it has ALWAYS been "We will have to see how it goes after Free Company housing, then we will let you know."
Please post your source before you add to the smearing going on on these forums.
People wanted Personal housing first. When Yoshi confirmed we were getting FC housing instead, he mentioned we won't get the personal one til 6 months afterwards in response to the backlash. e.g. patch 2.3
But it's a moot point. Things change, delays happen. I'm fine with the rooms, I'm just making a PSA for the people that were expecting personal houses. If you weren't expecting it, then good on you.

The question I'm asking is why does there need to be three different types of housing? It seems a bit redundant if you ask me.

Everyone enjoys different things in the game. Why do we need glamour? Why do we need different armor models? Why do we need crafting? Why do we need different mounts? Why do we need minions? This could go on forever. We don't NEED any of it, every player enjoys different things. Nothing wrong with options.
FC housing is pretty limiting, as only a small part of each fc can fully enjoy it.

If memory serves, the "six months" thing was actually promised to be how much time it would take for the housing prices to drop to more reasonable levels from the ridiculously high 200 million gil, not how long it would be until personal housing / rooms would take to be implemented. There was never a concrete date on housing and Yoshi literally said he had to wait and see before he could have any idea when and how they could be implemented properly due to a variety of factors like server stress.
...and I really do hope the SE execs see the rave reviews Yoshi's reinvention of FFXIV has gotten and choose to contribute more funds for server optimizations, because really, Yoshida managed to save a sinking ship AND turn it into SE's financial flagship while SE was busy building more sinking ships with the XIII sub-franchise.
I check every piece of news I can every morning first thing when I get to the office. I pour over everything I can since I can't play at all during the day and I don't recall this ever being the timeline for personal housing, so again, if you have a source I'd like to see it. Otherwise there are no promises being broken.I thought it was pretty common knowledge. I guess if you weren't following housing news since 2.0 you may not have known. I would have to look through the live letters before 2.1 to find exact quote.

Yes, you would need to be in a FC with a house.
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...=1#post2069795Q: How will personal rooms work?
Yoshida: For personal rooms, first the Free Company needs to have the house. Next, specific member needs to select a command to “make a room” to make members individual rooms...... the flow is something like that. Currently we’re looking into how the players enter the rooms, either you go directly to your room from the entrance, or maybe first go through the main hall first to get to individual rooms. The size of the room is little bit bigger than the Inn rooms from the city nations. Players can freely decorate the interior of their rooms. The player can set an option to allow everyone from Free Company to be able to enter the room or not.
