Reality Check: Personal housing delayed to 2.35+

Personal housing was promised 6 months after 2.1 but the recent news from the Yoshida paints a different picture from our dreams of owning our own land and buying a small house.

For now, we are getting personal rooms. It will function very much like FFXI:
Players will enter an instanced zone of a room that's slighty larger than a room at the inn. There, they can decorate it with furnishings.

There's no word on whether you must be in an FC with a house or if decorated rooms will also be available in the major cities (similar to residential zones in FFXI).

The actual land houses won't come til after patch 2.3, if we're lucky, 2.35

I'm personally ok with this, because housing will likely be expensive. If rooms are free to add-on, then more people will opt for personal rooms in the long run.

Why is this so hard to do?!

Rift gives out housing space like candy! WildStar is giving everyone a housing instance at the very start! LotRO has this down pat! Aion has tons of instanced housing!

Why do they continue with server limitations excuse when this has been done before in other games en masse.

I really don't care if we was to just have the Inn room and customize it to our liking, an FC house is enough already and I'm hardly ever in there when outside of combat unless it's to drop off mats and maybe dump some gil into the chest.

SE Bosses: You guys already failed once. You're lucky we're still even having XIV.

SE Bosses: Then your predecessor should have thought about that before releasing XIV. You get what you got.

Servers = A LOT of Money.

LOTS AND LOTS OF MONEY. Hundreds of thousands of dollars to set up just ONE.
FFXIV just like anything else has a budget, they can't just say "Well, we're making 4$, so LETS SPEND 3.8$!!!"

Over-estimating, or over-spending could end up costing a company more than they'd intended.




FFXIV is here to make money primarily, and that's what it will continue to prioritise.

SE is like a car company when it comes to servers. Other car companies make a car and sell it for 20k of your local currency (good reliable servers). SE comes, puts together a chassis and a steering wheel, and charge 20k for it too (crappy servers).

SE charges the standard rate for a sub, there is a certain expectation of players to have non-crappy servers like the other companies provide for the same sub price. Not only that, but they tack on money each month for extra retainers. They have enough money to support better servers. Both XI and XIV are crazy profitable.

Yeah, I'd also like to know where the OP got the idea that housing was ever promised 6 months after 2.1? My memory of the issue seems to recall that it has ALWAYS been "We will have to see how it goes after Free Company housing, then we will let you know."

I think the game has been playing catch-up since release of 2.0. They are doing a great job of multi-tasking development between new stuff and fixing the old as well as the current new problems.
