That would probably be true if you tried to play Mrs or Ms Everyone-at-once or Ms Super Average. But since you're trying to play an individual, all this falls away. Individuals can throw all your graphs and averages for a loop. Individuals break the mold. They're not all copies of the other ones.Problem is, the male and female brains actually work differently, down to their perceptions and instinctual responses. Men and women, for the most part, view the world differently and have different motivations and approaches. I've never *been* a woman, so I don't have their experiences and can't accurately portray one. I suppose I could just play a character that responded to things in a completely gender-neutral way, but then I might as well just play a male character or a gender-neutral character.
I play me. I don't try to guess "How would x type of person think?", because that's irrelevant to me doing or thinking something. I don't RP, because I can't RP anything other than myself (I'm an awful actor and liar). But I'm convincing BECAUSE I'm genuine. It's first and foremost a question of not second-guessing yourself. And a tomboy who never 'follows fashion to follow fashion' or to 'not arouse suspicion', will be seen as way more of a girl than a "tee hee I'm pretty" girl who does everything in such a stereotyped way you'd never guess they have a personality of their own.
Linkshells, Free Companies.Especially when you avoid DF/PF etc. Some people don't have that option.
Even if you don't play long hours, or play at odd hours, you'll find your pick of people who also do. Though trying to find Japanese people playing at Japanese times on US servers is probably not as easy.
I started my own Free Company, right back when I joined, because I fully anticipated the "forced grouping" aspect of FF14. In fact I dreaded it. I played FF11 in 2004, back when it came to NA, and it turned me off random groups forever. It was only partly in response to trolls, and not at all in response to trolls sending tells. The grouping uncertainty itself kills all the fun that could be had, and the non-permanency of the groups makes anything good or bad happening with them being a one-off, nothing that can be built upon, no chemistry developed.
I would rather take 6 months to get my 2 Animus (Scholar and Summoner) than PF or DF myth farm groups. I do soldiery and myth farm ONLY with my FC. Much more enjoyable, if not faster.
I don't have to prove a negative, the onus is on you to prove the positive. That it is a real problem, and not a troll problem (note: troll problems never go away, nobody will 'close 4chan' or eradicate all trolls).Just because YOU haven't run into it in this game doesn't mean no one has and that it never happens. And how would someone come to this game from another game and KNOW they won't have an experience they've had on other games?
Read on what an ad hominem is. It means I insult you and then deem the argument null and void based on that insult. I don't do this. I deem the argument null and void by itself, outside logic. The fact that it's mainly feminism the ideology (not feminists, the people) who promote it, means nothing, except that I see it a lot.Yep, hostility and ad hominem really strengthens your arguments.
And if you read hostility into this, maybe you ought to recalibrate your hostility-o-meter, because I'm not the least bit hostile.
I meet a ton of random people, mainly in cities. And since I'm co-lead for the FC and shout invite sometimes, I get to talk with people I don't even see face to face (in the same zone). I met more hostility at the fact I was shouting advertisement for my FC (from a very few people) than at anything else, at least since launch, where trolls in /shout were more common. I can't say about Mor Dhona, too much scrolling.FFXIV has no community outside of forums, so interaction with random people is pretty minimal

lol really? Sounds like I've been playing games with character creation wrong all these years!
And you know that how?...and it hasn't failed me yet lol.
Do you really think that people will actually tell you every time you assume their gender wrong?
I've lost count of all the times I've been mistaken for a guy on mmos, whatever my avatar is. Do you know how many times I've corrected these literally hundreds of people who have got it wrong? None. Not once. (Except when raiding in a known group of players like a FC - and that's only beause they figure it out pretty sharpish when they hear me talk (to which the usual response I get when talking for the first time is "wow I thought you were a guy" *sigh*)
Anyone who thinks they are expert at "telling" is almost certainly mistaken.
hypersensitive much?
its not that anyone has a problem with looking at a dudes ass, its just that looking at a female one is so much cooler!
ya dig?
I really hate the fact that this myth has continued for over a decade. Some guy friends i know who play female characters do so because its easier to get certain favours from players if they are of the fairer sex, especially when starting out at low levels. Me? i just find females more aesthetically pleasing, and it holds true for every game i played so far.
People are treated no different in the game regardless of the sex of their avatar.
Anyone who actually would choose a avatar type in order to get more or less "free stuff" from other should be laughed at and have their gamer card ripped up in front of them.
i cant help but wonder if these kinda threads are inspired by the OP's recently discovering that their in-game crush was actually a dude
Marriage is bad enough in real life why would someone want to get married in a MMO?
It's a ridiculous thing that debs always end up being pressured to put into their games.
Where is the divorce mechanic where your partner gets half your stuff and every time you make some Gil in a dungeon or through the market a percentage goes to them?
Whenever I see a "marriage" in a MMO I assume both players are female.
I don't understand the whole ass-looking thing. When I'm playing my character, I'm looking off in the distance or to the sides. I'm not watching him. It's like when I'm driving, I'm not looking at the car ahead of me. I'm looking ahead of them.
That said, I do play female characters on other games and would play them on this one if it made more sense to have alts. On WoW I have about half male and half female.
What an odd assumption.
Is it because you think men don't RP, because they don't want to get married, or because they don't like romance or romantic stories? Or all three? Because you are doing a real disservice to a lot of men if that's what you believe.
