This game has actually done something that helps me determine which female characters are played by guys and which are played by girls: Glamour.
Level 50 female Paladin wearing a bikini and thigh-high boots? Probably a guy.

The most common things G.I.R.L( Guys in Real Life) will say is :" I'd rather look at a girls ass.". Then the game gets a marriage system that doesn' t allow for same gender marriage and the guys playing girl toons make whine posts about it.
Lol no, most probably a girl. Girls' like being sexy :P.
lol
One of my FC mates says he can tell if you are a guy playing a female character by looking at her/his face make-up.
As of me, If I had known that casters' gears is practically designed for female I would have created a female character. Still, I''m quite satisfied with my elezen: I wanted him to be a bit ugly (there are too many "models" on Eorzea) and unique and I think I succeeded!
My character is not meant to be an in-game representation of myself.
to OP : Lol this is a game , games designed to play the way player want . Also there's tonn of games that force player to play "male" or "female" no matter who player is in real .
i play a female lalafell not because she's a chick or so i just believe female models in gaming these days get a better visualization process and have more work on them (not for the asset attribute), ive always noticed male characters have been half assed in games really with the exception of FFXIV:ARR and recently Dark Souls 2, but apart from that i would play a male char, just need to be impressed more by the template i can work with rather than one that has already been overly worked on to please the female masses
+ its a fantasy game lol.
Normally the best way to see wheither its a guy/girl IRL playing a female character ingame is by looking at how they styled their character.
A guy would normally never bother with glamouring or even customizing his character in the creation screen, they would just pick at random and play.
Although, there are some guys that make their characters look like total slu**, half naked etc and well its obvious then. (some girls do this too sadly but not the majority).
A girl IRL would try to make their character as cute as possible, with dresses, makeup, hair styled perfectly to match and colour matching.
But ya thats my idea on it xD This is how I work it out and it hasn't failed me yet lol.
Some guy friends i know who play female characters do so because its easier to get certain favours from players if they are of the fairer sex, especially when starting out at low levels. Me? i just find females more aesthetically pleasing, and it holds true for every game i played so far.
It's just what some people do. I always play the smaller races in MMORPGs (if there is one). I just seem to enjoy being small but powerful.
