Typically I like grinding, I do a lot of it in RPGs. That's usually the point anyway. But when I capped my company seals for the fourth time, after spending almost all of them on ventures and items like Peacock Ore every time, that's when I quit. That's somewhere between 150k-200k seals. And I only got the Maiden and Crab Atma after all that. And I'm sure there are people worse off than my luck.

The thing is, this isn't really grinding. This is just playing the lottery. And I've admitted defeat.

On the upside I guess I am close to the 3000 Fate Achievement...

If sphere scrolls are 2.5% drop rate from Guildhests, I'm blaming you OP.

Yeah SE, please cater to the grind lovers instead of the casual crowd which was what was used to promote your game in the first place. See how well that works out...

Grind lovers are more likely to stay. Casual crowd more likely to leave when the next cool shiny new game comes out regardless of the state of the game.

RNG is not Grind, no one is complaining about the Grind part like the Book. The book is a grind, but there is progress if you put time and effort into it. I don't mind and there should be more contents like this. While the Atma version, you can put 10 - 16 hours yield you nothing while some get it within 6 hours or less.

The forums is a terrible example and you should feel terrible for trying to argue using that point. People that want to complain are a lot more likely to post about it than people that like it and post about how they like it. The forums is also a rather poor representation of the game's actual playerbase.

Saying the majority of players hate it is also a rather foolish statement that you cannot prove. Unless you can show me a survey with a good sample size, that statement is nothing more than bs. For all we know, the majority of players are indifferent and don't care either way.

are they indifferent? are you saying all the players on the game who complain and hate the atma quest are lying to everyone? when both the forums and the population in game match it says something then you have SE themselves saying barely anyone has it and is taking feedback on the quest hmm seems like something to me.

    This, basically.

There's nothing wrong with the Animus part; it's grindy, but it's "I can measure how much progress I'm making" grindy. For Atma though, it's a completely different issue. You're actively paying hours into the RNG slot machines hoping for the payout - which you might not get anything from, and when that happens, it feels shitty, because you don't even have anything of value to show for it. Just time that feels ultimately wasted, because if one didn't drop, you're literally no closer than you were at the start.

There is absolutely value in timesink quests, especially for more hardcore players, and especially in the way XIV is doing it where there's always An Alternative Option. RNG, however, has never been a particularly enjoyable way to force a timesink, because it doesn't even work as that.

Atma/Animus is the only thing in the game you can accomplish on your own (for the most part) that gives you a sense of accomplishment. RNG or not, finishing my atma was the most proud moment I've had in XIV.
