They might drop PS3 at or around the first expansion's release, depending on if the PS3 can still handle the game (I don't think it's nescesarrily processing power either, more of a RAM issue since the PS3 only has 2 sets of unshared 256MB RAM [256 for the CPU and 256 for the GPU]. It has to dump and load so much data compared to a PC with even 2GB of RAM and 512 on the GPU. HDD speed could also be a problem, 5400RPM isn't too great, heard sticking an SSD in greatly alleviates load times for XIV on PS3). I hope they keep it up after the expansion though, my laptop can sort of run the game, but the GPU isn't good enough to keep a steady framerate over 24FPS (20ish in unpopulated zones with few models being drawn at lowest settings and model draw limit at minimum, 12-14 in like Mor Dhona. Did Titan normal on one of my alts last night, 4 people + titan + 2 summons (e-carby and my eos) framerate was worse than in Mor Dhona likely because of the stage effects. Cleared without issue, but still, can't imagine doing CT or anything on my laptop unless Nvidia works some magic for the 310m or SE allows PC to look worse and let us turn off shadows).

First time poster, but a long time reader here.
We were talking about the people like the OP with my raid group (2 of us on PS3). We just laughed at people making up excuses for not clearing content based on your console when you actually have the same tools everyone else has to clear it.
You have mechanichs to deal with (dodging, or otherwise) and abilities to perform your job. Being in a PS3 has nothing to do with your potential performance in whatever content you are tackling on. What decides its outcome is you doing your job and dealing with mechanichs properly.
Hardore/casual discussion regarding PS3-nonPS3 players? I just have to say that's simply nonsense. There are hardcore PS3 players & casuals PC players, and viceversa.
It's funny that you think they'd drop support for us after 6 months of release; that'd be an awful business decision. Good thing you don't make those.

Ps3 has had that option for quite a while now. At least since january, probably since launch but I am Unsure.

Also, this thread yells elitist. Yeah, ps4 is better since its a newer system, but the ps3 is still able to clear content. I have a few in my static that use ps3 and they never have issues

Sorry I was mistaken then. Also, no. I'm not an elitist. PS3 isn't capable of much more. They have stated it and said that to stay competitive they would have to drop it sooner or later.

You said you were on the other side of the fence before clearing difficult content, yet you didn't beat T4 until PS4 beta when lockouts were gone and didn't beat Titan until the echo buff. I have to question what you consider difficult.

I've beaten Turns 1-5 and all EX Primals on PS3, as have many others. If you weren't able to then I'm sorry to say it's because you simply aren't good enough.

I beat Coil right after 2.1 went live and I use the Scholar Primal weapon, so shove it man. I am good enough to clear it. It was just 1000 times easier especially on Titan Ex due to Weight of the Land actually giving me time to get out. I couldn't tank turn 4 because I didn't get to see the adds dropping until 1-2 seconds after they hit the ground and I am not good enough at tanking to get aggro back from 2BLM 1MNK and 1BRD honestly.

TL;DR: It will be dropped because it CAN'T handle future stuff. They are just thinking businessly (word?) with keeping it around for another year or so at maximum most likely.

Let's face it: they only released PS3 version to tide us console players over till PS4 and to keep good on their original word that it would be available on PS3 almost 4 years ago.

Well SE is giving free upgrades from PS3 to PS4 but they are not forcing the upgrade yet. After 3.0 is released they will probably be pushing the issue that PS3 players need to upgrade if they wish to play at so and so date.

As for not being able to clear content on PS3, I will agree that you are just bad. After a few trys with failures you should get the hang of the mechanics to succeed or someone experience enough would've sat down explaining everything to the new players to said content

Keep in mind dropping support doesn't mean cutting off PS3ers it just means PS3 wouldn't get all of the new shinies each patch. They would never basically tell paying customers they can no longer play and press a magic button to lock out PS3ers. They'd simply be urged to switch as more and more content and QoL items are added that they can't experience.

I was on the other side of the fence on this discussion for the longest time. I played on PS3 and was clearing difficult content, so I didn't see a problem with it. I can play most content with ease. With the exception of Titan Extreme, which I attributed to connection speed. (1.5 mbps download)

To make my point, I think PS3 needs to be dropped within the next month of subscription. If that is too soon, then make it by the end of this year at the latest. If Square Enix wants to retain their numbers to a small degree, they could offer a coupon for a percentage off a PS4 or something. I don't know, but I now see why PC players have tried to avoid us PS3 players so far in the game.

You play on PS3 up until now, get on fine, play the PS4 version and suddenly it should be dropped?

There are people out there who don't want to buy a PS4 yet, can't afford it, or whatever else. Why not just enjoy the fact you get to play a nicer looking version of the game and let everyone else be?

While I don't agree that PS3 support should be dropped immediately I do however notice a huge difference playing on my ps4 compared to my ps3. For some of us ps3 users it really is the system itself holding some of us back. I have the last ps3 that came out before the ps4 and upgraded the hard drive to a ssd and it's the only game downloaded on there. It helped some with the loading screens and "lag" but playing on my ps4 again this weekend just confirmed for ME that my ps3 was holding back my gameplay. For whatever reason my ps3 connection to my internet is eh at best and then i play on my ps4 and i have no issues at all. obviously the graphics are better and just overall it is a better system to play the game on.
