    PS3 Players are Handicapped

I was on the other side of the fence on this discussion for the longest time. I played on PS3 and was clearing difficult content, so I didn't see a problem with it. I can play most content with ease. With the exception of Titan Extreme, which I attributed to connection speed. (1.5 mbps download)

However, after playing beta for PS4 this weekend, I discovered how wrong I was. I beat titan with ease. Turn 4 did not lag for me. Basically, I could clear the content itself way before now. I was just having to fight my PS3's processing speed. It had nothing to do with connection speed.

To make my point, I think PS3 needs to be dropped within the next month of subscription. If that is too soon, then make it by the end of this year at the latest. If Square Enix wants to retain their numbers to a small degree, they could offer a coupon for a percentage off a PS4 or something. I don't know, but I now see why PC players have tried to avoid us PS3 players so far in the game.

PS3 players are handicapped and their really isn't a fix for it. PS3 is outdated and should not have a future in this game. It's only holding PS3 players back for now, but PS3 will hold this game back in the future if we have to keep the content playable for PS3 players.

EDIT: Quotes from others with similar views and experiences with PS3 version. I understand I may be jumping the gun on the dropping support thing, but I honestly feel bad for the PS3 users. PS3 just can't handle the game as it currently is. If you are good enough to play on PS3 despite horrid lag due to processing power.. Imaging what you could do on PS4. ^.^

They'd simply be urged to switch as more and more content and QoL items are added that they can't experience.
Dropping support doesn't mean you can't play after they do. It means they wont get new content. If you aren't at endgame then it wouldn't affect you.

And as far as I know, loading times are a nightmare. When I run dungeons with PS3 players, they take a lot to load and start the Duty. I don't mind that, but they always let me know their frustration about it.

They will eventually drop it, but I think to say to do it do quickly would be a very poor idea. If they just up and dropped PS3, even by the end of the year, they would lose players and not get them back. I know several people who play on the PS3 who do fine and have no intention of switching to the PC or PS4 anytime soon as they cannot afford that. To drop 1 of only 3 systems that can play the game is not something to be taken likely because there are a lot of users who have no other option at this point in time.

To make my point, I think that if SE drops support of the PS3 a mere 6months after release, then they have to provide atleast a 50% discount on PS4s for those of us being forced to buy a new console because elitists think the game will be held back if they keep the dirty black monster in the house~

    Sorry, but No~

"PS3 support should be cancelled for the good of PS3 players." Doesn't really make sense to me. Should SE also force everyone to use DX11 when the DX11 version is released "for the good of those with low-end PCs"?

I have been on both sides of this discussion. I can tell you if you had of played in beta over the weekend you would say the same thing. PS3 is at its limit and this game needs to move on. Its so bad that PS4 even has a hotbar feature for holding down both triggers. (Apologies if PS3 has it too. I refuse to play PS3 anymore so I wouldn't know.)

In that case, I think the best idea is to release a hi-definition texture pack for PC players. There was a thread about it. Some games do that, for example: DDO. And there's the interview with Yoshi-P about this subject (PS3 support): http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/commen...p_features_of/

No. "... For the good of *the game*." They have already said they will have to drop it eventually to "stay competitive". I'm just saying they need to drop it sooner than they have previously said.

While the PS3 is somewhat of a handycap, many players have and continue to do every bit of content in the game with the PS3, which tells me that they do not need to drop it. ow it may be harder to do, and if you are a serious gamer you will likely switch as soon as posible, but there are plenty of casual gamers who have been playing since launch who are not near ready for doing things like titan ex and are in no rush to do said things, and if they are playing on PS3 they have no reason (beyond faster loads and better graphics) to switch.

Dropping PS3 support would do more harm than good. We already know they will design fights that PS3 can have some issues with, so they are not limiting the future content based on the PS3, although it may limit how much content a particular player on the PS3 may complete. But once again, plenty of casuals who play on PS3 have no issues as they dont care about the Ex fights yet and are fine playing what they do and may leave if forced to spend money on a PC or PS4.

Point is it will not be dropped, but in a few months (say 6, or at 1st expansion) I would not be surprised to see alot of content that will not work well on PS3 and PS3 limitation not being factored in any more to phase out the system without fully dropping support for another say year after that.

    So people don't miss it:

    Regarding future of PS3 version:

Q: Do you plan to continue to support the PS3 version even after the PS4 version is released?
Y: At this moment, we've already begun work on the expansion pack, and I can tell you that at the very least the PS3 version will be supported up to that point.
Q: Does that mean there's a possibility that PS3 users will no longer be able to continue playing beyond that expansion?
Y: It may be a possibility in the future.
Q: How far off in the future are we talking about here?
Y: That will depend on how long people continue to play on the PS3. I've mentioned in the presentation this morning that I want to make sure that "FFXIV continues to innovate", and there's certainly the possibility that whatever innovation we seek will come with certain technical requirements. For example in EQN, which I mentioned earlier, it would not be possible to realize certain things like physic-based gameplay without meeting the hardware prerequisites. So if this becomes something that players want and we start to see people leave for rival products, then we can't just sit around twiddling our thumbs either. After all, we too need to ensure we have the necessary weapons to take on other MMORPGs in the future.
For example, if we were to have a large-scale FATE where players can ride on a flying mount and freely fly around and swoop down at a dragon that is 200 meters long, players would probably be impressed and entertained. However, it would also require us to raise the minimum requirement when it comes to hardware specs.
Our aim has always been to develop the game so that players can have the same experience no matter which hardware they play on. However, if we were to become too fixated on this and become unable to innovate, then this will cease to be a FF game. So I do not plan to say that we will support the PS3 version forever. At the same time, I'm not saying that we'll be ending support by next year or anything like that either, so don't worry.

PS3 version will be supported until at least 3.0
