    The "AF" tools did not always exist. Luminary tools were far superior to anything else when they were first added.

    And this is 2.x, not 1.x...
    The AF tools likely got the same stats as luminaries because a number of luminaries from 1.x were botted, and SE wanted to equalize old and new crafters.

    Still, saying it was never for anything but looks is just wrong.

    I'm playing Final Fantasy XIV. Just because you weren't there doesn't mean it didn't happen. If you can state an arbitrary point in the game's life as the baseline, so can I.

    double or triple melded crafted tool were better than Luminary tool during 1.0

    So yes, Luminary tools were never the best tools.
