So they should immediately always get what they're going after regardless of someone else needing it more than them? Not only would they be lacking humility, that's just plain unfair to people who actually need the gear. If they get put in a party where no one needs it, it's fair game. If another player actually NEEDS that gear, they should have right of way with it. That's the point of a Need and Greed system.
Looking at it from a "everyone has a equal right to gear" is a half-truth. Everyone has the ability to roll on it when it becomes available. The part that's not true is that people who need the gear to beneficially improve their character deserve it more than another person that doesn't. I don't Need on something if I already have it or don't need it, I recognize that another player who could use it needs it more than me, and I realize they have the right of way with it. If we're suddenly going to start declaring that the player who has at least an item level of 80 and is doing a Thornmarch run for Vanity items, compared to the item level 64 PLD that needs a new sword and could greatly use it, doesn't deserve it. Then I question the logic in this.
It's like going into runs for fun as whatever class you want, and if something drops that you can use, even if you don't need it, and you take it from someone that does, you're a dick. Plain and simple. They need the weapon, you do not. You're deliberately making the game harder for someone else out of greed, and I refuse to play with anyone who does that.
In the Titan HM run, it was fair game. I asked politely to that Tank if I could have it because I've been having awful runs today, I asked a favor, and would not have any hard feelings if I didn't get it, because that Tank needed that Shield just as much as me. The Tank in the Thornmarch run? Nope, didn't need it at all, it was obsolete for him by this point in the game, and he deliberately went for it anyways regardless of the fact that I needed it more than him and he was going into these runs for a secondary reason, compared to me doing it to actually make some beneficial changes in my character's gear, which would be a primary reason. Here's a hierarchy on gear on how I see it:
1. Players who Need the gear to replace lesser equipment have the right of way with it, regardless of how many people there are. If there are 4 different people who "Need" something, they all deserve it equally.
2. Players of the same class, where one player needs something more than another, have an equal shot at something. But the player who "Needs" the item to replace bad gear, deserves it more than the other player that doesn't need the item to replace something, and instead is going for the item just to use it in a Vanity system.
3. If gear drops and no players "Need" it, then it is fair game for all players to roll on it.
I shouldn't have to elaborate more than this on why the first Tank should have realized and humbly accepted that another player was getting that weapon to replace something, while he was doing the run simply to have it's image used over something else, then to sit in his storage after that for all time, while the other player would have been actively using it for a decent amount of time. This community is going to suffer as time goes on if people roll on something just because they can and continue to take items away from people who require that gear while they just want to have it for a collector's reason so it can sit in their storage afterwards.
