I never seem to miss my DF ping when playing DD. Maybe thats because instead of sitting around doing nothing in game and surfer the web, I go do stuff like, idk, My beastmen dailies, farm for materials, and if it's class I'm leveling, I do my hunting log while waiting, and fates. It's only YOUR fault if you miss you DF, and your fault alone. Asking square give you something that will alert you when you're not even paying attention to the game in the first place is just ridiculous(considering you can already do it anyway). Sqaure made this game for you to play, not for you to turn on, and then just look away from while you do other things. I never feel bad for people that miss their DF because they tab'd out to go play OSU, or surf the web.
