Hah....only stupidity here is the argument itself. While it started a correction of phrase for specific types of DPS, you had to chime in with a $3 bills worth of input of what you think has more sense than a decade old acronym. I guess one really can't choose their own wisdom.

I dps only while doing content where everyone (especially me) is familiar with it, just to speed things up a bit. In all other cases, I try NOT to dps, because in my experience, it's better to save mp and/or be ready for potential errors then adding a bit to overall damage dealt (which would probably hardly even matter). I believe, contrary to popular belief, that ultimately what makes good healer a great one (people often say it's doing dps as healer) is when you can heal/save situations where not everything goes right. In those cases, you could be missing mp, or your heal could land just 1-2 seconds later due to switching out of CS and this might be enough for people to die. People will recall you as a great healer not because you could switch in and out of CS every 5 seconds. That said, doing dps is fun, and if you comfortable with your healing, your party can benefit from it (for example in Garuda ex, going 1 heal, you can start in CS and dps to skip the very 1st friction completely).

To sum it up:

farm/easy content - go CS and dps
progression/hard content - focus on healing and save mp

Sort of funny you post this, As i have pretty much leveled whm all the way by mainly doing dps, lol
even some players have had trouble getting agro away from me.
I started of conj as i just wanted the mount, well turns out i leveled all the way. lol

DPS is an acronym that stands for damage per second.

It is a unit of measure, not a noun or a verb.

"Doing substantial DPS as a healer"
or
"Doing meaningful DPS as a healer"

Quit being a nuisance. The term FFXIV:ARR uses is DPS. Deal with it. You can't decide what they chose is stupid and correct people based on your preference. If they wanted to call the role BeachBallFlingers you would have to deal with me calling it that.

Some dictionaries have literally included the word "figuratively" in the definition of "literally." The world is full of intentional stupid. It would be stupid to fight such overwhelming odds. Join the stupid.

In places where my Regen or Fairy can do most of the work, I always Cleric Stance and help with DPS. Aero and Stone for WHM, DOTs and Shadow Flare for SCH(if there's no SMN). I'm usually in full healing mode in Coil, except in T4 where I Holy to help with DPS at times (with Mages Ballad) of course.

Shadow Flares stack so I dunno why you wouldn't do it just because somebody else is.
