SE does not need the extra money from the cash shop to survive. It's not going to feed their starving children or to rebuild communities wracked by natural disasters. It is a blatant money grab. The more money you give them, the more they will try to get from you.

While I do not believe Retainers will present a huge bonus to the players who buy them, everything players buy will give SE the idea to take more content we should be getting solely for our subscriptions and put it into said cash shop. I don't understand why this is so difficult to grasp.
How do you know what SE will do? You have the inside scoop, eh? People need to calm down. XI has the same services available for purchase (minus the upcoming fantasia), and that game hasn't turned into a cash shop.
