It's just that by the very nature of vertical progression, the last tier of content has to be phased out. The increase in ilvl speaks for itself really.
There's no more of a gap beween i90 and i110 than there is between i70 and i90. I see lots of people in full darklight running things they shouldn't, so I see no reason that i90 gear/content couldn't have held its place until we make it to i130 (or whatever's coming up next).
