IMO They should've built XIV off of XI. I have no doubt about that. People that play WoW are gonna expect a WoW2 that resembles the first one. FFXI had something original, they had to use that game as the base and build it up from there.

Many people are saying that FFXIV has so much potential, but i just dont see it.

Just so you know, WoW2 is known as Rift.... Complete copy with only visual differences and different story.
