Except, both White Mages and Black Mages can use both Staves and Rods in Eorzean Lore.Er...nope...Only Black Mage/Thaumaturge use Staves...I mistook Radicals for the Conjurer as Staves for some reason. Both do have at least 1 Rod however, Conjurer/White Mage have like 4, while Thaumaturge/Black Mage have only 1, their Relic Item Stardust Rod.
The signature weapon types for both are:
White Mages: Radicals, Canes, Crooks, and Wands
Black Mages: Staves, Cudgels, Scepters, and Brands
Black Mage's Mog Weapon is also a Staff. So are their PvP Weapons. These weapons may have appeared in FF3, but other than Names, nothing about them has to be a throw back to the games. They were intentionally not designed to be as the FF3 counter parts. Eorzean lore isn't wrong. We didn't write it. We have no right to correct it either when its written as intended. If there were an actual glaring issue they'd be more responsive to fixing the issue, this however isn't the case.
Also with the interview that recently happened, I do believe this falls under the statement made in one of the recent interviews:Individually, is a pet peeve at best. It holds little merit for them to go through and change it just because its a minor annoyance.Saito:
Yeah, but that's still really tricky. Even if we explained all of this to them, from the perspective of a serious hardcore player, all that person would hear is how we're still going to put a damper on their desire to play more. At the end of the day, you'd still need to look at the whole picture from the service provider's perspective in order to know whether or not you made the right choice. The wishes of each individual player does not always translate to merits for the game.
I, personally, simply don't care that the names are mixed up. It affects my game play none, and its not an issue worth unsubscribing for. FF3 Elder Staff was for White Mages and Omni Rod is for Black Mages. FFXIV, Elder Staff is for Black Mages and Omni Rod is for White Mages.
