Even the design they gave those staves doesn't match their names. Omnirod(Old man face), Elder Staff(Looks like an Eye). It's clear to me at least, but whatever! lol

For as many times as I've seen prostitution and rape incorporated into this game, not once have I considered Internal Release to be inappropriately named for sexy reasons. But now that I've read this thread, it cannot be unrealized.
I'm sorry, Square Enix, but you need to have your Lore and Localization teams go back to Final Fantasy III and actually use that as a reference, since that's obviously the intention.
The situation now is that you're saying everything is OK because the translations match the original Japanese. But what we're saying is that the original Japanese was WRONG TO BEGIN WITH.
Elder Staff: WHM weapon, wooden staff
Omnirod: BLM weapon, metallic rod
Fix it. End of story.
Those responding that XIV has its own lore, you're correct. For instance, if in Eorzea, Black Mages used staves primarily, and White Mages used rods, this name swap would not be wholly unreasonable. However, this is simply not the case. Just like in every past FF, including FF3, Black Mages use rods, and White Mages use staves, it's clear that the naming is wholly nonsensical.

Onion is for Paladin, not Dragoon!
Goodbye, Final Fantasy...
Actually, onion is for Onion.
Teen Rated includes:
Language
Mild Blood
Sexual Themes
Use of Alcohol
Violence
This differs between regions tho, while ARR is rate "T" in NA, it is rated 16+ in most European Countries.
None of these three make any sense. You know, I really do need to call into question the people who are in charge of naming things on the English version. The other posters here are making an excellent point about these weapons. But there is so many more examples of weirdness in the english names.
- Titan's Granit "Gaols" should really have been named "Jails".
- Players should not be given an ability named "Internal Release".
- "Adloquium". Let's just name a highly used healing ability, something that 99% of players can neither pronounce, nor spell. How about changing it to "Galvanize"?
He doesn't mind us conducting trials so close to his bazaar, so long as he's properly compensated... Yes, Portus, we pay him in sorcery-blasted bird flesh. - Cocobygo
Why not increase your vocabulary? You know, I really do need to call into question the people who are in charge of naming things on the English version. The other posters here are making an excellent point about these weapons. But there is so many more examples of weirdness in the english names.

While I myself am baffled as to the Elder Staff / Omnirod name mix up, THIS post seems like excessive whining. You know, I really do need to call into question the people who are in charge of naming things on the English version. Gaol is a perfectly fine name for them.
WTF is wrong with Internal Release? Not everyone has a childish mind.
And Adloquium? If 99% of players can't pronounce or spell that, then I seriously worry about the average intelligence of players in this game.
