AoE means "Area of Effect"...any attack that covers an area is an AoE.
Slipstream is a cone AoE. The various attacks on Archeron are all AoEs, not just Moonfall Slash. Titan's Tumults and Weight of the Land are both AoEs as is Mountain Buster, though they all have different areas they effect.
AoEs don't just originate from the attacker, like in Wicked Wheel or Steel Cyclone; they're just one form of AoE. You're showing as a DRG...is Doom Spike not an AoE, even though it has a rectangular damage-zone?
AoE = Area of Effect, meaning any ability which targets an area rather than a single target. You can have a straight line or column AoE, PBAoE (point-blank AoE, in a circle around the caster), cone AoE, etc.
On topic, certainly not an exploit, though they may still change it as they did with most other such spells. Might be an oversight.
